Exclamation Burn Smell Inside Cabin 110 P525 23.5

V8 P525, 110
7,500 miles
2023.5

When having 'fun' with the car on an on ramp or similar stretch (high revs) I get a burn/plastic smell inside the cabin almost like through the a/c....

I have had Porsches, M3's, etc and have had the same few minutes of thrill on empty highway stretches. I've never smelled any heat/burn INSIDE the car.

Does anyone have any thoughts or insight? Waiting for my dealer appointment, but this is concerning.

I haven't noticed any smell in my 110 P525 MY23. And I have taken the engine to the max many times.

No such smells in my Defender. If this persists, take it to the dealer.

Interesting… dealer advisor wasn’t surprised when I told him what I was experiencing. Still being checked out. Let’s see …. I called Land Rover and they were no help. They said they stand by whatever the dealer says.

Update: Dealer said 'smell is normal' A/C must be in recirculating mode otherwise engine smells can make its way through the cabin. .... this is a first for me with any car. I told them to document it in writing.

Exhaust doesn't smell like burning. Those are very different and distinct smells. If you have another dealer within range, or even an indy shop that works on LR's I would get a 2nd opinion.

...and possibly remind them of the recent cracking oil filter housing causing engine fires, here: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a6...-fires-recall/

Also, there's a thread here about an engine fire that reduced a Defender to a pile of ashes without any advance warning, you might want to give it a read: https://landroverforums.com/forum/20...issues-123843/

I wouldn't take no for an answer here.

keep in mind that this recall is for the Ingenium AJ300 I6 MHEV (P340, P360 & P400), not the V8 as the OP has. The AJ133 V8 and the Ingenium engines don’t share anything in common. Also, that fire that was posted in the thread is also the AJ300.

Ouch, that was embarrassing, I should've paid closer attention. In my defense, I got triggered by the mention of the dealer claiming everything is OK - I've experienced this many times in the past (every time with things being *not* OK), and just this Friday my colleague ran into a situation when he asked them to investigate an "increased battery discharge" message and having instead being sold a new battery, and on top of that having his turn signals and windows dead in open position. And of course they said "not our fault, we've replaced hundreds of batteries before, this never happened". Just like not putting a dent in my door while replacing the fan clutch that they broke during replacing my radiator, and then breaking the center console while fixing it.

Back to the topic - unless a decent second opinion presents itself, I'd start digging myself - if the dealer is in denial, they will only yield given irrefutable evidence. @WTFChuck might want to give his qualified advice, meanwhile, not even having a vehicle yet, I'll have to admit I got myself over my head and shut up for a while.
