In what manner? Could you provide more info on its operation? Thanks.
If you lose electrical power the gearbox will shift to park and will stay there. Pull the release to manually engage neutral. Now you can tow your stricken Defender onto a flatbed.
Worth knowing where it is and how to do it when you're stranded and about to get a tow. Just have someone press the brakes when you do it. Stops any rolling away adventures.

Great! Thanks for the info. It seems every vehicle out there has a different requirement for selecting neutral. My previous driver, a Passport required a special tool, around $200 bucks to be fitted into a receptacle on the engine casing to engage neutral for towing, or winching onto a flatbed.. And with these complexities, not every tow truck driver could be fully aware of these weird requirements. I couldn’t even jump in the Passport, put it into neutral without starting the engine, just to roll it down my driveway to get another car out of the garage. And the worst thing is to start a car for 20 seconds and shut it down before it’s reached operating temperature. So, you would have to wait 15 minutes before shutting down the engine. Annoying.

@_Allegedly has previously posted a Workshop Manual in another thread. I thought that I found this in iOwner, but the Search is proving to be a PITA. So here it is out of the WS Manual:
At one time, I thought I saw a document on towing the Defender that went into all of this in TOPIx. I can't relocate it either there or in the Owner's Manual, but I distinctly remember reading a lot of doom and dread if you didn't do this before towing the Defender. In fact, I think they distinctly recommended this before flatbed towing as well because it would drag the Defender onto it before leveling otherwise. I'll keep looking, but if one of the other members who have access can find it I'd appreciate the assist. With JLR, you have to get the terms just right. There's no AI on that search.
