For an upcoming camping trip, I'm planning to set up a tarp covering the rear load space, open rear door, and some sitting area..
I don't have an issue with setting up the tarp for rain falling directly onto the area.
But I'm concerned about rain landing further forward, on the vehicle roof, then running backwards underneath the tarp and into the loadspace area..
There is a small 'joint' between the main roof and rear end/corner. I don't know if this is supposed to act as a gutter/rain channel, and if so, how effective it is.
If this doesn't work, I'm hoping I can just lay some cordage or tape across the roofline to divert water down the sides of the vehicles.
Anyone had experience with this issue? Any suggestions welcome. (I will consider parking on a slope/chocks as a worst case solution, but that's not always convenient for sleeping in the car).
RED = where I worry water will run
BLUE = where i'd like water to run due to the channel / tape / cordage / drip strip.
(Ignore the Chelsea truck spoiler, my vehicle doesn't have one - but this is the first time I've found an actual functional use for one!)
Last year I found this guy (in the UK) on Instagram/Facebook that makes these waterproof canvas rear tailgate cover area, it is held in place with suction cups. He makes them in a variety of colors as well. Works great for the sun and rain. I will try and find the link to it and post it.
I found my next canvas project. I could see that in an expanded form with one collapsible post to form the 4th corner which would allow the size to be expanded. .
Finally found it...been searching all day for where I got the Rear Door Canopy. .
I found him in the Facebook Group "Official New Defender Mods Group (Fixes, Feedback, Mods)", back in October of 2022...Paul Amos is the seller/maker, not sure if he still makes/sells them. Looks like he posted in the "All New Defender Owners Parts/Sales Group" as well.
