I am new to this forum and I have recently taken delivery of a 2022 Defender. I have read threads about noise in the cargo area - my issue may be related, but is slightly different.
We have started hearing a 'rubbing' noise in the cargo space - not metal sounding. When I look under the cargo area floor, in the space where the jack is located, the styrofoam insert is 1"-2" lower on the driver's rear side than it is on the passenger's rear side (see pics). The foam moves around easily and it doesn't appear to be properly supported. It is far enough lower on the driver's side that you can see in between the plastic molding and the foam, and could easily drop something into the space.
I have taken the Defender into the dealership to address the noise and showed them the foam. Initially they agreed that it didn't look right, but then looked at another Defender that was in their shop and it was also sagging in the same place. They responded that it must be the way it is supposed to be, but that they will address the noise. There is no way that the positioning of the foam insert in my Defender is by design.
Has anyone else seen this? I am interested in any other new Defender owners and whether the foam insert under your cargo floor is level with the surrounding plastic or is it sagging on one side. Passenger side - foam subfloor and plastic molding are properly offset / nearly flush Drive side - foam subfloor is 1"-2" lower than plastic molding, leaving large gap.
? Thanks in advance for any input.
ahh dang I just picked up my 2022 Defender v8 and the foam was the same way, and I too am having issues with noises in the cargo area, particularly when I hit a bump or turn a tight corner. It's quite annoying and metallic in sound.
I had thought that the foam unevenness was the cause of the problem, but I have wedged in some clothes etc and it made no difference.
It looks to be a guide issue as others have noted, although, maybe I'm just weak, but I found it VERY difficult to adjust the precision screws on the cargo door and am worried I'll mess up the process.
