Default Cargo Mat Blocking Tie Down Points

Hey Everyone!

Just took delivery of my MY 2023 Defender 110 and I love it. I noticed that the cargo mat is blocking the tie down attachment points and I plan on using these points to secure my dog's travel carrier. Just curious if people have cut the mat to accomodate these attachement points or if it's better to just fold the mat and keep it intact. Seems a bit like an oversight by Land Rover.

Thanks!

Josh

Just cut out the appropriate squares in the mat that you need to access the mount points. Easily done with a utility knife.

The mat can be cut easily and in fact I found the standard LRD rubber mat had a seam precisely where I need to cut it to accommodate the rear tie down points. Pics show the mat, and where it was cut to fit the optional adjustable cargo rails. I imagine the other seams cast with the LRD Mat would fit the standard tie down loop locations and just require less material be removed - but still follow their preset seams.

hope that helps

OP, if you have the fixed tie down points, you can cut the mat on three sides of the square where the point sits below the map. When you need to access the tie down flip the small square up to expose the point and when you’re done, flip it back down.

I noticed it on a YT tutorial on how to install the Cargo Partition Net, which requires use of two of the bottom points. I’m going to cut my mat tomorrow.

Yes, cut them out. Land Rover indicates this in their instructions

^^^ Exactly. Defenders don’t all come with the tie-down cargo rails so the mats are made to fill the space, but molded so there’s a perfect cutting line available for you if you do have the cargo rails.

In other words, you’re not “winging it” if you cut the mat; you’re doing exactly what you’re supposed to.
