Default Coolant brands

The recommended coolant in the manual is a Havoline XLC which appears to only come in 6 packs…

So I’m trying to find a comparable.

Any other brands people like?

I couldn’t find much info in search on this, so thought I’d post on it.

NativeTexan:

Yes, I topped off my coolant yesterday with the one you are showing -- at 50% concentration. The back label is recommending it for all Land Rover products post-1997. The conclusion of suitable to use is supported by research into the topic on chemical contents versus the Havoline XLC one you note.

Enjoy !

i just use the land rover branded extended life XLC orange coolant. my local parts manager was kind enough to comp me a gallon a while back. 50/50 mix with distilled water whenever it needs to be topped off. single gallons readily available online.

Any chance of a link to the OEM coolant? I've not been able to find it at normal, non-arm-and-leg pricing.

can't really verify any of these sellers, and when i asked a dealer their price, they said it was around $50 a gallon direct from them. but like i said, they "gifted" one to me. best bet is to just google it or make a friend in your local parts dept. good luck.

Thanks

Yeah. I saw that one before. Doesn't fit the new Defender apparently.

Maybe they just haven't updated the fitment to include it. Looking to get something that fits the bill localish so I don't have to pay shipping. Local dealer wanted $70+ for a gallon. Pass. I guess I'm not friendly enough.

It’s damn near criminal to charge $50 for a gallon.

I mean I can get the havoline xlc brand from Amazon for $130 but you have to buy 6 gallons at that price.

napa has them too which I believe I can get in singles for about $20. Once the ice let’s up I’m gonna go check them out.

Can someone post what the "proper" coolant is? Specific as possible would be appreciated. I absolutely hate iGuide. The thing is bloody useless. And with an ice storm in the area, I'm not motivated enough to go out and get the manual out of the beast.... Thanks for saving me from whining in the weather!

Ok, found this. I think I can go from there (from the Workshop manual).

Perhaps this? I'll need to figure if it has the correct details.

If I recall correctly, I think PENTOFROST SF (50/50 mix with distilled water) is also on the list of the coolant for our vehicle. Please double check.
