Default Coolant question

Hey all,

2021 Defender S here and I’m having a slow coolant leak. It’s very strange. 28k miles and over the last visit to the dealer (20k) it went from just below max to the middle and now it’s at the min line with the light flashing once and then disappeared. No coolant signs on the frame or motor. I’m baffled. Oil looks normal too. Any help or advice would be great.

SAME HERE. Third time its low. 24k miles.
Overflow tank has been replaced and system has allegedly been pressure tested. Curious if maybe its ending up in the transmission because Its shifting inconsistently. Many cars have this problem so ive read.

Yep, ditto. I took it in once, they replaced some hoses, but still slow leak. I’m adding coolant every ~2,000 miles (low mark to high mark).
I’ll mention it to the dealer next time, but I’m not going to make a special trip just for this, and be without the Defender for two to three weeks while they do all the things.

Anyone know if this is happening on 2022+ models?

Happening on mine too. MY22

No sign of coolant anywhere. Dealer has had a look when doing a small top up. Drops very slowly to min mark but goes no lower. Came like that from the factory. My guess is it's something in the reservoir tank but it is a worry. Where is it going?

I've added maybe 200ml of coolant in 18,000miles.

My 22 P400 has slowly lost coolant, but I have no idea where it is going. I had the oil tested when I replaced it at 10k and there was no sign of contamination. That didn't surprise me since there has been a slight smell of coolant after driving since the car was new, which suggests that it is escaping to the atmosphere, not into the engine. Interestingly when the reservoir level became low the smell disappeared, and then returned when I topped it up. My guess is the reservoir itself.

Dealer recently had to replace both coolant lines going in/out of the turbo on my 2020 P400. My coolant level was dropping slowly and seeing a bit of dried whitish coolant stains underhood.

About a year ago I had a kinked coolant line somewhere also - replaced, but not leaking.

May be worth a check.

Hey all just wanted to update from my experience. So I took vehicle to the dealer and they changed the coolant reservoir and auxiliary radiator. Every was back to normal. A few weeks later I was letting the car idol outside and when I pulled back into my garage I smelled coolant again. Check the level and it was below the low line again. Additionally I noticed coolant on the ground the next morning and saw this.

I went back to the dealer, had it pressure tested and the driver side intercooler was cracked so LR replaced and since then no issues.

Cheers

Was smelling coolant for a few weeks on my 2022 110 P300 S, currently at 37,000 miles. I wash my 110 a lot and never noticed any coolant on the ground. I had it in for a oil change and asked them to do a pressure test, they said "no leaks or loss of pressure." They did add a coolant UV dye and didn't see it leaking (green fluid in the pictures below) the dye is UV reactive. I suspect they didn't check the aux radiator. However the aux radiator is only used when the vehicle get hot and the aux coolant pump is activated,

I did a 3,700 mile trip from FL to NY and back to NY and the coolant smell was strong especially from the driver's side when I arrived home. I think because of the heat in FL (over 90 every day) and the time it was running (over a 20 hour drive) it started to leak more, so I took off the driver's side front tire and the fender liner and found the source. The aux radiator was leaking from a few fins not the hose fittings, the coolant level in the reservoir tank never really dropped. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the driver's side aux radiator under warrantee.

Wow! Crazy how similar post #9 is to your image. Surprised there's not a service bulletin to just pull the cover from the aux coolers.
