I know we have had other threads started about roof racks, but not many conversations about cross bars for the top. I have a full Thule system for our kayaks that I will be migrating to the Defender.
Thule parts I am using are:
Thule podium feet
Foot kit 3112
60" Thule Evo Wing Bar (I may need a shorter one)
I will get pictures up as soon as I can confirm what pieces are needed. The foot kit is the same foot used for LR3/4 with the standard track system. The Defenders tracks look the same.
I also wanted to keep things from sliding all over the back of the Defender. So I ordered the track system from the factory for $150. It comes with the two tracks and four moveable cleats. I also picked up an OEM retention system used on many Rovers. So far it worked great to hold propane tanks from tipping over and sliding all over the cargo area. Here is a picture:
Pretty handy to have and fully removable when not needed.
The Thule fitment kit that is sold for the new Defender in the UK and South Africa is the 3040. I ordered it on eBay from the UK and will see if it fits. They also spec 50” bars.
subscribed. have my whole settup from my old car and like to get my roof box on. i will need a new foot kit and podium feet but love to get a confirmation before i order

I looked up the 3040 kit on Thule, it states that it is only the Podium towers and didn't have any info on the foot needed.
Do the small Thule foot tabs that slide into the Defender roof rails fit correctly? I know on the LR4, only 2 corners of the small tabs make contact with the inside of the LR4 rails. With thousands of dollars of ski equipment or bikes up there, I wasn't comfortable with just 2 corners of the tabs holding things in place. I ended-up grinding down the tabs so that they fit perfectly inside the LR4 roof rail tracks with all 4 corners of the tabs making contact.

Here’s what you’ll find on the SA and UK Thule sites for this car. 183040 is the same as 3040. 753 is the number for the podium feet. 3040 is the fit kit and is available on Amazon.

They fit fine and have plenty of overlap inside the roof rail t-slots. Not going anywhere once tightened.
