first thing first - I'm 5 ft 8 and I'm basically at the limit
I love overlanding in my defender and absolutely love the fact that it can get you through some of the toughest terrains and take you to a beautiful camp spot that only a few has visited. However, I've been on a several camping trip where weather was not so nice (heavy rain, snow) which makes camping outside or rooftop camping not ideal.
I also happen to have the 90 - the short-wheel base with very limited cargo space. Turns out it's actually got decent space for both me and my girlfriend (I'm 5 ft 8 and she's 5 ft 7). All you need to do
is:
remove the rear seat bottom and fold down the second row
push front seats all the way forward and tilt down as much as possible
put some storage boxes (in my case, a tool box) behind the front seat to act as support
figure out a way to make the truck flat with the back of the rear seat (in my case, I made a wood frame storage rack but you can totally get away with just foams as others have demonstrated on the forum)
inflate my custom made sleep mattress with the truck power outlet! (I know a buddy who runs a air mattress company and it costs me ~$450 USD to get it made)
I can't wait to go out camp this weekend and give it try!!
P.S. if you're interested in the mattress, feel free to reach out to me.
Thanks! I saw that too, and one thing I was trying to accomplish is making it easy to setup (before this air mattress I also had firm mattresses and it was always a pain to set it up and put away)
