Of course a commercial is a form of storytelling which warrants creative liberties. But the issue here is not about creative liberties, instead, it's about coherent and sensible narrative.

Therefore you can have a commercial that's set in an dystopian fantasy sci Fi world (not realistic) but doesn't make any sense not because the setting is not real (unrealistic) but because the logic/motive/rationale is flawed in reference to human nature, psychology and such.
