Default D90 rear seats that WILL fold flat!

Finally, my D90 has a flat cargo floor ,yet still has seating in the rear for 2 just in case! This is what i believe JLR should have offered in the 90. 2 seater with +2 seating similar the the original D90. Still have some trim work to finish up, however, it is truely a game changer for me. . Not exactly a direct bolt in, but with some custom brackets.

Fitment was better than expected! Still retains factory rear seat belts. Seating position is a bit lower and further back, however, since i will use the flat cargo floor 90 percent of the time, having these seats available if needed is the best of both worlds imo! We will be offering this retrofit here in the east coast US. Here are some photos of the current progress:

Well done! It is my understanding that that silver factory beam is a 'structural' component and is needed for chassis strength. Are you finding any new creaks/rattles/squeaks coming from the structure as a result? That blasted bar is my only reservation regarding the 90.

It is basically a thin cover panel for the rear seat hinge mechanism. For example, the commercial 2 seat variant doesnt have anything structural in that area. So i will say it is absolutely not needed for the chassis strength.

Sometimes I think designers just get lazy or don't understand what the customers really need. Well done, there!

Interesting on that only being a thin cover for the seat mechanism. That really shows up the D90 cargo design as a bit of engineering laziness if you ask me. I still wonder if there was some crash regulation that hamstrung the design team there. Hard to believe they would just elect to say 'Sod it, let's finish this in the next 5 minutes and go to the pub' when a man in a shed appears to have outdone them. Sarek, can you post any more detailed pictures of that factory bar and folding mechanism? I am really curious now...

Sorry to have repeated bad information that I was told by more than one Land Rover product specialist. I've not spent enough time crawling around a D90 to have discovered this deception. I always assumed it was indeed structural and hence the ribbed appearance which suggests it looks that way to increase strength.

I think it had to do with the "5 seater" designation and the seating height and position. If you want to comfortably carry passengers in the reat often, then the stock d90 rear seat is the best option. If you only plan on only using the rear seats every once in a while, but prefer much more and useful cargo space, with the option to still put a couple people in the back, our mod will be a game changer.

Is the primary difference with respect to comfort between stock and the mod the seat height? And, if so, do you happen to know the what the measurement of that distance is?

That could be the very crash reg I am referring to. Pretty sure there are standards for the body position of a certain size (probably 50% adult male) crash dummy and how they have to be sitting with their feet flat on the floor and belt position, etc. I've got to believe that there was no way for them to package it all within regs and still make the load floor flat, or they would've done it.

They were designed by Starbucks barista's and assembled in a Lego factory by apprentices. But they cost $80k and look cool so I'll buy one and stain my driveway with tire gel.

Mine was more than that, do I get free Starbucks coffee with it?
