Default Dealer Recommendation for Below MSRP Price

New to the Forum! Quick question, I'm looking at placing an order for a 2022 Defender 110 and willing to wait as long as it takes to get my build. I see many Dealers charging MSRP and MSRP+ which I get with supply and demand. Has anyone had a positive experience with a Dealer willing to sell less than MSRP in a scenario that you are will to wait patiently? I'm in Houston, TX but willing to drive to get a better deal. Thanks --- Jim

I highly doubt you'd want to drive this far but Land Rover Calgary got us a smoking good deal on our 2021 110 P400 X-Dynamic HSE. Essentially hooked us up with the Friends and Family discount among other things that ended up knocking 10ish k off the price but I'm willing to bet the 32 some odd hour drive to get here would somewhat neutralize that. Let alone getting it across the border. And this was all just before the shortages started so who knows what they're selling for these days.

Not heard of anyone getting a Defender 2 under MSRP. I think things have gotten worse with the supply chain issues. The only folks who get "down" to MSRP are the ones waiting. Those buying off the lots appear to be >MSRP. Many examples of Defenders not purchased being marked up when the dealer moves from an order to a lot vehicle.

Agree. Stay local and work through the configurator to get exactly what you want and pass that to your sales rep and you should not have any surprises when it arrives. The dealer will try an make some money on financing and dealer installed extras and the like.

Like @TheMoke wrote, work CLOSELY with them. You will get what you want. Get a Purchase Order because some things are put on at Manufacturer, some at Port, some at Dealer. And the Dealer costs have been crazy (for their labor to install). So, get an idea of what they will charge beforehand.

I won't give specifics but try Costco Auto for a quote. It was easily the best offer I could find w/in 500 miles.

I'm guessing getting any discount on a 2022 at the moment would be very unlikely. You might find a 2020-2021 on the lot, like my local dealer has one left that I test drove months ago, nice vehicle just a plain white 110 base model. That one they might give away for a slight discount, hard to say, it may be that it hasn't been sold because they're firm. I keep assuming because it's plain looking but still it does look good IMO. Patience is good, you will need it if you're looking for discounts when they have so few new vehicles they're begging for used cars to sell.

Also: Last week I was surprised to see two Defenders on a CarMax search. Both of them had ~7k miles and were about what they would run for new. With the emerging news that JLR's aluminum component manufacturer is about to go under, your chances of getting a Defender at less than MSRP is approaching zero if not already there.

Bought mine 3 weeks ago...was the only one on the lot at my local dealer. Happened to be 95% exactly what I wanted (missing locking rear diff and towing package), color I wanted, trim I wanted, etc. Very bare bones, under 60k MSRP.

I paid full MSRP. They would not move off of it and easy to understand why. A silver X model came through a week ago and my salesman sold it 45 minutes after arrival (it was not an ordered car).

I have no idea how you could get one for under MSRP right now. I hated paying MSRP...I've never done it before and don't intend on doing it again. But the car market is insane right now and I actually needed a car so I had to buy something...might as well be somethiNg good.

I paid MSRP for a Defender 90 off the lot in early June.
I wouldn’t expect any sort of negotiation down from MSRP in the current new vehicle market.
All the other Southern California Dealers I called were $10,000 to $20,000 market adjustment.
