The cargo area of the 110 along with the (awful) engine choices for the Defender here in the U.S. are what is making me stick with the Disco5 for now. I dunno, 130? Maybe.

ANY diesel.

short of big farms, diesel is kind of dead in the US. The most noteworthy addition in the automotive landscape here is the addition of the diesel in the Escalade/Denali, which should sell like hotcakes. Short of that, I cant imagine anyone else is pining for them. If anything, the US has been very gasoline heavy for a long time and diesel was a distraction.

I always remember diesels to be a PITA to fill up, but they went much further on a tank. Not sure what the range is on the Defenders(P300 or P400), but I bet the diesel version must easily add 100 miles.

They are da-best for towing. I'd pull my rock-crawler (with trailer just shy of 10,000 lbs) comfortably at 75 mph+ and still get over 20mpg with my Ram 2500 with Cummins 6.7 liter turbo diesel. Tons of low-end torque, but day in day out drivability is best left to petrol IMHO.

hmmm, with having the soon to be retired TD6 for the past four years in a '17 D5, I just don't agree with that. getting 19-20 MPG in the city and around 30 on the road. and at this point diesel is actually cheaper here in CA than gas.

JLR has stopped diesels in the US at least 3-4 years too soon IMO, especially when those D-series MHEVs are just sitting across the pond and not being imported. could be there are simply too many government road blocks for certification at this point though too, especially here in CA (aside from all the VW silliness).

Diesels are fantastic for towing.

They're pretty much rubbish for everything else but range in the US.

They are choked by emissions, much more expensive initially and generally require more service, the fuel is more expensive, and most (all?) require DEF these days.

Nobody is seriously going to take a 130 to Moab or through the muck. That's what the 90 and 110 are for. It is nothing more than a kid hauler. For the Whole Foods crowd who are too cool for an Expedition Max or Suburban. Need more room for the beach chairs. For all the REI camping gear. As the support vehicle for those "Overlanderzzzz."

A 130 without a diesel engine (here in the US) is going to be a dud ... it is not going to be the 110s and / or 90s success. Price vs. benefits ... not great, on a gasser.
Then again, as mentioned above, the soccer moms would be all over it, for its coolness factor - but that is not gonna sell volumes.
