^^ LOL, so the serious rock crawler crowd is where the big sales volumes are, and the soccer mom/Whole Foods crowd is just a little niche market???

That's a shame. I was hoping for the return of the LR4 split tailgate on the 130.

Makes you wonder where they will put the spare tire on a 130 pickup model. Maybe on the hood?

Just look at the stats .... but then again... I might have been wrong before in my life ( one or twice ). How many "rock crawlers" have you seen with Sequoia, or Armadas ... or even big GM ? ....

I'm confused (that's happening too much lately, not your problem).

You seem to be arguing that some major slice of the SUV market is to serious rock crawlers.

NGB seems to be arguing that the majority of SUVs, and I would agree that this is true even with Jeep Wrangler Rubicons, never crawl rocks.

So what NGB seems to be saying is that sales of the D130 would not be a success just because of rock crawling customers, it will be a success or failure based on how it is received by said soccer moms. I don't disagree.

On a related note we wanted a D110 (w/ 3-rows) over a Discovery based largely on form/style (the Disco being hideous in our opinion). I am sure however the Disco would have FUNCTIONED fine for our primary off-road uses (beach/sand/dune, occasional forest trails). The D130 looks like it would have worked for us in all but one way - we're at max size in the garage anything larger just wouldn't fit and that's a deal breaker for us. I'm sure it doesn't matter to many/most (or many will not have garages so stuffed with motorcycles they can't fit a larger SUV).

That was my first concern...the 130 will be really long with the spare tire on the tailgate. Now I wish there was a 130 option to delete the third row seats and put the spare tire inside under the rear deck or simply mounted underneath. If you don't order third row seats on an X5, you can get a spare tire under the rear deck. (Yes, we're trying to decide if we replace the LR4 with a second Defender or X5. X5 will win if better the better audio system becomes available again)

There is a large market for premium, family 4WD SUVs (MB, Volvo, BMW, Audi) without LO range or locking diffs, room for a family to grow, and with upscale styling inside.
Once the new premium Discovery line vehicle (D6?) is rolled-out to tackle this market (at pricing beneath Defender 130 because it is stripped of off-road capability?), who knows what the volumes of each will be? It will be fun to watch over time.

I have a friend who just sold his premium AMG MB SUV (one very desirable for the mall / school run crowd) once he found he could not climb a hill on some nearby property -- one which my 2020 110 climbed without a problem (lifted to off-road height, diffs locked and in LO range).

Are you saying that she designed the 130?
