Default Defender Cargo Space Measurements

Thought people might find the following useful in evaluating the cargo area. Having used ours a few nights to sleep in, definitely appreciate the room! Note that the measurements are from the 'fixed' parts of the car. So if you were curious about sleeping, in moving the seats forward you can much more than the 72" at the center console.

A - Height at door opening - 35.5" B - Height from floor to ceiling - 37" C - Width at door opening - 38" D - Width at wheel wells - 45" E - Width above wheel wells - 52.5" F - Length from bottom of seat cushion to door - 61.5" G - Length from center console to door - 72"

Thanks for that pic with the dimensions. Do you have the 7 seat vehicle? I do, and when I fold down my second row, I can't get the seats to go fully flat to create a totally flat cargo area like on your photo above. Then on the Land Rover iGuide app, some of the drawings from the owners manual makes it sound like only the 5 seat models (w/o the 3rd row) can get the cargo area fully flat. See photo below.

Tucker Woods --- thanks so much for sharing this apparent fact that the 7 seat version does not go entirely flat. Whoa! It does in the 7 seat version of the D4 (LR4) -- a feature which makes it very useful as a truck / hauler.

I ordered the 5 seater Defender cause I did not have a need to pay for the 7 seat version -- never would I suspect the 7 seater did not fold flat (!). Please let us know, if you discover more info. on this one.

Specifically avoided the third row Defenders due to the cargo area not folding flat.

@Tucker Woods if possible, can you take a similar photo in your 7 seater with everything folded down/"flat" in cargo mode? i'd like to see just how "not flat" the cargo area becomes. i loved being able to stand my bikes in the back of my LR3/LR4 *and* still have room for a friend to sit back there. standing my bike in the D5 isn't as elegant, sadly. i do love all the tough, plastic material in the defender, however!

Hi AngeiBoing,

I finished my homework assignment. Below are pics showing what the 7-seater cargo area looks like folded down. Unless I am doing something wrong, I don't think it goes flat like the 5-seater. The manual hints at this too. On my old Range Rover Sport (2015) it was the same thing--didn't really fold flat.

According to comments I have read online, the seats in the 7 seater CAN fold all the way flat, but you have to push really hard. I have not tried this myself, so don't blame me if you break anything. It is definitely much easier to get them flat in the 5 seater.
