I have the 22's and the ride is excellent. As mentioned by Kencav and Ehloo the 45 profile is plenty to give a nice balance. I actually fitted Nitto Ridge Grapplers on them, and I'm really impressed with the combination.

Ride quality may be fine, but the look. I guess if you’re after the urban thing. So weird looking to me.

I’m not buying that there isn’t some trade off on ride quality with wheels this large and sidewalls this thin. I think the ride quality is probably “acceptable” vs great. Just basing on my own experiences with different setups. I wish LR would go in the other direction — smaller wheels, bigger tires! Different strokes for different folks.

I actually like the look of the 22's over the 20's most of the time. I'm not a huge fan of the designs of the 20" Rover wheels.

That being said, the 20" wheels were a better compromise for me given that I knew I would take mine offoroad from time to time. There are just more options in the 20" tire sizes for true offroad tires.

I chose the 20 for more tire vs 22. But with 22 you have more wheel options like overfinch and urban wheels.

Currently have the 20”s but am am thinking about having some custom forged 21”s made with the same specs ( except the diameter) as the 22”s. Only concern is that it might not clear the knuckle?? The 22” wheels are wider but they meet the knuckle at a higher point. Thoughts?

What would be the best all season tyre make and size to fit on 22in rims on a V8? No off-roading, lots of motorway cruising in all weather and general fast back road driving in dynamic mode.

The reality is you're going to have a lot of different opinions from people who think they're right. Thats why Baskin-Robbins has 31 flavors.

The 22" wheels definitely look the part in the city - sort of that Urban bling. For me - they're far too large for the Defender which isn't big enough to justify the 22" size. The 22" wheel design is terrible (it looks just as mailed-in as a 20" too), and if you really need that Miami Vice look with 22's, I'd go with a different wheel.

As someone who was a transportation designer for a long time, I much prefer the looks of the 18" and 19" wheels with more sidewall. Some here have mentioned "off-road" cues. We'll, this vehicle's heritage and lineage is off-road. JLR did a nice job incorporating street-use into the new design and engineering, but the spirit of the Defender longs for for pragmatic sidewalls and a bit of a burlier appearance than you'd get with an Escalade, Lexus, or Range Rover. You can see with those that have posted the 22's - they look like Hot Wheels with the smaller brakes, massive negative space between spokes, and non-existant sidewall.

All that to say.. If you want that 22" look, do your thing. The only right decision for you is your gut impulse and decision.
