Question Disable auto screen dimming?

Turning to the forum after exhausting the options of searching the manual and repeated email exchanges with the local dealer. The symptom is that, in low light or night conditions the middle screen dims. It dims to such an extent that it is near impossible to see anything at all. I cannot find a setting to disable this function. The dealer advised that the setting to change was the "AUTO - LIGHT - DARK" options accessible via the 'quick' tab after the settings cog. Their advice was to set this to "LIGHT". But this does not address the problem. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Welcome Jonw007. You are correct...no way to stop this ridiculous feature. I agree, can't see anything at dusk or when driving into a tunnel. The only alternative is to order the analog guage cluster instead of the digital version. My dealer has no clue about this "feature" either. Maybe a future software update will do something about it.

Well, thanks Paul for the very quick reply - and I thought it must be a simple setting buried somewhere deep into the system somewhere. Do we suppose that someone designed this 'feature'?

Yes, it's new for 2023 as our 2021 does not have it.

This problem was mentioned in some earlier posts. It doesn’t seem to be a ‘feature’, it seems to be more of a glitch. This never happened on my ‘22 in its first year or so, it seems to have cropped up, maybe after a software update. It’s weird because the illumination is fine during the day, or at night. It seems to auto dim at dusk, just as the ambient light is fading, but once it gets past a certain point of darkness the illumination becomes ‘normal’ again, or fully illuminated. Hoping a future software update cures this.

This happens on my 2020. And a 2021 (old body style) RRS I've driven. My friend in Seattle has an i-Pace electric Jag that I noticed does it driving between Bellevue and Seattle through a tunnel IE -- All of the JLR with the TFT display for the gauges seem to do this.

I was trying to figure out if somewhere there's a light sensor I could put tape over. Haven't figured that out yet.

When saying middle screen, do you mean the center screen or the gauge cluster? There are many reports of the gauge cluster dimming at dusk or tunnels making it near impossible to see, but I haven't heard of issues with the center screen.

Has anyone heard or received a fix on this issue? I have a 2024 and the cluster is so dim you can barely see it. It’s happening in sunlight night and at dusk. Dealers trying to figure it out they have it currently, but have not come up with anything.

Not so much of a fix as it is a hack, but maybe try unplugging the light sensor that lives in the middle top of the dash and see if that disables it (if it's not working correctly anyway, might as well try not having it work at all). Check out Simon's Video (link below) on how simple it is to access and give it a go.
