My response rate is even lower - maybe 20%

I was disappointed that the driver of the NAS D90 didn't recognize me as a fellow defender

The other L663 drivers seem to think of it as "my current SUV" and nothing more. They would be as likely to wave back to a rando guy driving a Sorrento.

It was great reading this thread until NoGaBiker's note -- quite sorry for those who think the Defender is just another SUV. But hey, someone has to a put a lease worth of miles on them, so the 2nd or 3rd owner can buy them and take them off-road. There's often a rainbow following a rain.

By the way, there are NO new (or old) Defenders on the roads near me. So it goes out in the sticks .....

Enjoy !

I think the other two L663 drivers near me would agree.

I hope the NAS D90 folks start to see a common bond with those of us who are more "enthusiast"

LOL, don't know how far you are from Highlands/Cashiers, but there's no shortage of new and old Defenders and the like. My neighbor runs a local tour business and uses an old Euro Gelandewagen, a newer US spec one, and a Pinzgauer 4x4 troop carrier.

I wave and indeed, if time allows offer tea and roadside cucumber sandwiches to my fellow Defender folk. Anything else just isn't cricket.

Few wave back, although the ones that do, have enthusiastically reciprocated.

I wave to other Defenders and occasionally get an acknowledgment back. Coming from a Wrangler, it’s sort of become a habit. I also have a Bronco Sport and wave to them also. A few acknowledge.

So here's my story.

I ride motorcycles (a lot of them) and there are all these tribal cultures formed around brands and roots and who waves or how they wave and ... I laugh at them all.

I wave at other bikes cause I'm friendly, and happy, and glad to see them, and want them to feel glad to see me. I also wave to kids and dogs and old people on porches and ...

I also drive a Jeep and I wave to Wranglers, and Gladiators, and even old Cherokees if they've been modified and look like the driver might care.

So when I drive the Defender I'm constantly fighting the urge to wave at things that will have no idea, not be looking, and definitely won't wave back unless they think I'm psycho....

But when I see another Defender, I'm always looking to wave.

On another note I remember my dad bringing home the first BMW (early 3-series) and proudly explaining how BMW owners flashed their lights at each other. It was like maybe 1983 and it was still "new". That's long gone, too many of them. But I get it ...I do.

I have owned several or rarer and 'cult' cars
I have a JEEP< Definitely a JEEP wave (or Peace sign) and I often forget because there are so many on the road
I have a flip up headlight Vette, A wave or Tipping up of the headlights is always appropriate
I have a Rarer Chevy SS, Scarce car with a cult following; We've broken many traffic laws trying to acknowledge eachother in the wilderness,
I look forward to acknowledging other Defender owners, I hope I'm in their class LOL
I love all things automotive! No time for boring rides

I still don't see many in my area. I waved at the first couple that passed by in the opposite direction but I don't think they waved back. I did see one driving past the hospital when I had to pick up something from the datacenter there during really bad weather. I beeped and he beeped back. I was thinking yea man I know we're both glad we took the plunge on a Defender as bad as these roads are after a foot of snow overnight.
