Engine stop when in park and I open door?? How to disable
Hello all! I am wondering if there is a setting I am missing to where I can turn off the feature where the car turns off when I open my driver side door?
This is inconvenient and sometimes I want the car engine and radio to stay on when I briefly hop out. How do I turn this off?

Hmmm... I believe if you press the "start-stop off" button to disable the auto start/stop function, it will also disable the motor turning off when you open the door. But it does put the car in P *and* put the parking brake on.
That feature can be so annoying in tight off-roading situations where you want to execute the time-honored move of opening the door, leaning out, and backing up at 1/2 mile per hour while looking at the rock you want to either avoid or precisely place your tire on. Sure, make the nannies so they go crazy if you open the door above 5mph, but let us do so with it just creeping. Or let us do so with it in 4-Lo. My 2014 Wrangler allows several things in 4Lo that it doesn’t allow in Hi. For instance, it’s a 6speed manual and you can just reach in from outside and turn the key if the Jeep’s in gear and it will start and begin slowly creeping forward, without you even in the thing. In Hi, of course, like every vehicle these days you have to have the clutch depressed before the starter will engage.
(The reason for this feature is so that if you stall in a water crossing you can restart without pressing the clutch in, which allows some small amount of water into some part of the system and eventually contaminates the fluid.)

l think this feature has become standard since some poor woman got out of her Land Rover while the vehicle was still in reverse and in "brake hold"
The vehicle drove over her and she was killed. So now, if you open the door the engine turns off.
You can override it, but only after it's shut the engine off, so no chance of the vehicle accidentally running over you.

I have literally had my Defender 5 days now and I am reaching a level of frustration over this stupid “babysitting” technology. Between the parking brake coming on when opening the door to see where the tires are in relation to a curb, to the irritating brake Hold everytime you stop, to the Auto Start/Stop engine feature, to gear shift lever that requires you to pat your head and rub your tummy before it will allow you to put it into Drive or Reverse. Combined, they have all damn near caused more accidents and fender benders than helped prevent them.
A lot of new vehicles are like this.
My friends Toyota is worse. lt actually tells her to "sit up straight" if the camera thinks she is slouching in the seat.
And keeps telling her there's "something on the back seat" if she has anything in the back of the car like shopping etc.
The beeps and bongs are a nightmare on that vehicle as well.
At least on the Defender you can turn some of them off.

Switching off auto hold does not completely disable brake hold, it will still hold if you press the brake pedal a little too hard. You can remove brake hold completely with the GAP tool.
