The main reason I installed the ladder...ski season. I have the factory cross bars with Yakama FatCat EVO 6 Ski mounted to the factory cross bars with the Yakima SmarT-Slot Kit 2.
I also added the PowerfulUK tow look step, it uses a factory lug nut to attach to the tow loop.
i always had my own doubts about just the ladder. i would use it to sit on the roof with my kids i suppose! My primary reason is i live in an old house with a fairly small garage and i think with the roof rack the Defender wouldn't make it through the door. i do have air suspension specced so the ability to drop lower than ride height might make it feasible but i haven't crunched the numbers on heights. what is the car height with expedition roof rack or factory cross bars with the car dropped to assist height? thanks!

The roof rack adds 53mm to the height of the car. (top of the shark fin to the top of the rack =53mm).
To me, a ladder to nowhere sounds like $800 I could spend on something more fun.
I have the ladder but went with the frontrunner rack. Since then I have taken off the rack due to lack of use and wind noise (it's a great rake and for sale!). The only ladder alternative is the Lucky 8 one for the back of the vehicle. That one would allow for less noise.

@docsigmund You're selling your Frontrunner rack? If so I'm interested!
I am. Might include the LR ladder if that is of interest. I paid $1075 for the rack. Like new selling for $700 plus shipping. Not sure where you live. I am just outside San Antonio, TX
