I read on Facebook forums (so taking with a big grain of salt) that someone couldn't get an expedition rack, and their dealership said "due to too many complaints about the racks bending" (or something like that...) they are being redesigned and currently unavailable. Anyone else heard this?
The only issue I've read about is some of the early expedition rack had the black powder coat bubbling / corroding after 1-2 winter seasons in salty areas.
Anyway just curious, I already have an expedition rack on mine but...
I have not heard that my rack is in great shape after I replaced the two bars the dealer bent, I am glad I did a walk around before driving off the lot after service. I was given a whole new roof rack because they could not just get me the two bars that where bent.
Hmm interesting. I was assuming that I could walk on my roof rack if I ever needed to (I've definitely been up there sitting on / walking on my D2's safety devices rack a hundred times, which is tubular steel).... maybe not.
Ive stood on my rack. I weigh 190 lbs. Depends on your foot print. If youre applying that 190 over 1 bar, in the middle of the rack, ofc you run the risk of bending a bar.
Myself and the crew have clambered all over mine. It's pretty solid.
The redesign info is complete bunk as far as I know. I read the same post on FB and it seemed the dealer was just coming up with some random excuse to explain not having the rack for the new to Defender customer. Who knows, maybe the dealer even thought it was true.
I can't see Thule redesigning a product with a pretty great design so quickly.
@hectorcamacho@me.com - love seeing all your mods over the years/months. See you've dropped your home made bin holder for that huge thing in the back. Beyond the Forerunner corner supports, what is the big metal rod things holding it down? Is that your own DIY or did you pick it up somewhere? Or did it come with the box?
