Experience with Sarek?
Does anyone have experience with Sarek? I was looking into them but their website is atrocious and it seems like one can't even really find what they make, sell, or how much their stuff is. Is it basically a local shop you have to drive into and it's largely custom one offs or has anyone ordered remotely?
They are fantastic. They did my sliders, custom exhaust and dif guard. Going back at some point for the underbody shields , would not hesitate to recommend them for any work you are thinking of. Easiest way to work with them is by calling
They are tremendous. I've known Ralf a very long time, and he is a standup/knowledgeable guy... Sarek is currently building my 24 110, and it's been nothing but positive experience. They aren't cheap, because they aren't cheap.
Yes, I've been to the shop several times. Being that I'm on the eastern shore of VA it's only a little over an hour drive. Give them a call... super easy and fun to talk to them!
Shop is fairly new, clean and efficient. About 10 work bays with lifts, etc. Extensive fabrication area. More great workshop than factory. Seems to be about 6 mechanics when I have been there in addition to Raif and front office. All land rovers in shop as I observed some older rebuilds and some new for their stage 1-3 work. I received no pushback on requests for other work (I have not proceeded with this as yet). I have dealt primarily with John.
Sarek is a GREAT shop. And as a small town, local business they do wonderful things for the broader community. The irony of the internet is that everyone can easily have a global audience. The reality is, they are just a VERY good team and don't have a national reach. If you want product, I'm confident they can ship it to you. But I think they are just organizational scaled for the Mid-Coast region at best. I think (someone will correct me) that they provided the racks for the recent Trek which must have been a HUGE 'gig' for them. So they can scale up. I just wouldn't expect them to provide product fulfillment, personalized responses, etc. like a national retail org. I've met him in person, been on trails with him, etc. when he traveled to Texas SCARR. Saw his rig and mug from a distance a year later at Destination Defender. Know folks who trailed with him to Big Bend. So, he's a legit enthusiast & successful business owner. If you think it's smoke & mirrors - nope. If you think the local shop has been OVERWHELMED with demand, I think that could be true. And congrats! I'm happy for him.
If you ping them, I'm hopeful they can work something out for you. I know the local 3rd party Land Rover company I've used in San Antonio has worked with him to install stuff on other customers. Maybe that route will work for you: get a local LR company to work with them.
As a final note, it is REDICULOUS how bespoke things are in the 2020 Defender community. Most things are pricy, scarce, and few options. Sometimes more than one!
Good luck.
