Default explorer rack - hard shell roof tent - queries

hello, i know there are some threads on this but was wondering if there is anymore uptodate inofrmation. I am wanting to buy a hard shell tent to go the explorer rack but in the UK there is very little information about suitability.

I am thinking James Baroud but their distributor does know if it will fit the explorer rack. they think the box will be too wide.

any advice/help on suitable tents is appreciated

thanks

width wise it should fit. mounting brackets and hardware might be a challenge.

the expedition rack is made by Thule and any Thule related brackets will fit.

most tents have some type of basic t bolt rail on the bottom of the tent. i have seen Roofnest and Ikamper on top of the expedition rack

Morning.
I have the Ikamper Skycap 2.0, and yes, while a large tent and it overhanging the sides of the expedition rack, it doesn't extend over the width of the vehicle, nor the front and rear of the rack.\
It actually doesn't look too bad, nor does it affect handling.

I used the supplied mounting brackets that came with the tent that work with both the Thule aero blades of the expedition rack but also any other type of rack.

there are various brackets that will work. most racks use some type of t bolt fitment which is very common

so the question is will these work on a different tent. James Baroud has rails and these brackets must be standard sizing but like everything i am sure they won't fit

thanks

Looks amazing.

Does it create a lot of wind noise?

Not at all, its pretty quiet. A Thule ski box makes much more noise

We also have the iKamper 2.0 and love it. Amazing how much room is inside. We went with the iKamper vs some of the forward hinged options (like AluCab and the LR option) because it's almost double the interior volume. Getting the hard shell vs the variety of soft shell options is worth it as well. Yes, they're more expensive but the quality that comes with them is so much better. The ease of setting the tent up makes me laugh every time.

With regards to wind noise - surprisingly I feel like the Defender is quieter with the tent on the expedition rack than just driving with the the rack itself. So I'd say its negligible, definitely not worse.
