I have used EW several times: on the P63 Range Rover-Big win, L322 Range Rover, never broke, Disco 1 kind of break even. VW Tiguan horrible, may as well burned the money. Ended up in a class action to get paid back from VW. So yes I got the one from Land Rover, checked it out before I spent any time on it at the dealer, you have a bit of time to decide. It has a decent reputation. Lots of tech in this car, tech breaks and is expensive. On the L322 for example, the only real warranty claim on the extended warranty was one of the keys, the spring to pop out the blade part broke. Almost $750 to get a new one and six months wait, since apparently only the factory can cut the key and program it for that model year. They covered it. Don't want to know what the smartphone sized key for the Defender would cost, by the pound; a lot more. I keep my cars for 7-10 years so it makes sense. If you don't keep them that long, perhaps a waste. I know I will never get the VW sponsored one again, or another VW for that matter. Of course it is the wife's car and...I won't go there.

Exactly it's the three year 50k extension, let's not forget though it's initially a four year/50k factory warranty, and that 50k may come sooner than the 4 years does for some. Those higher mileage folks may want to take that into consideration. My 2022 model year has 17,800 miles on it already and I've been able to cut back on my mileage somewhat lately since one of my sons moved in with me. Based upon LR reputation for electrical and other quality issues I would suggest $1100 per year in repairs over the final three years would be considered quite tolerable. I'll be honest with you, mine was purchased brand new and I suspect the warranty work I've had between the rear brake light controller replacement, the troubleshooting and reprogramming of the module related to the fuel pump and now my recent full headlight assembly replacement would've surely been near 2k in parts and labor already, and that's brand new so whomever has this 4 years and 50k miles from now I doubt they'll be getting away with a problem free experience. By then the hourly labor rate will be jacked up a bit more besides.

So, enough of my rant. To each his own. I'd much rather pay the extra $45 per month but that's because I don't have a bunch of money in the bank to fall back on. Those who do IMO have no real need to consider extended warranties.

I got the extension to 7 year OEM warranty. To the OP's question, it "adds" 3 years to the 4 year warranty (not an additional 7).

I didn't get the extended warranty on my old Discovery, which ended up being a mistake in retrospect. On a positive note, I learned a lot about maintenance and wrenching on vehicles as I worked my way through fixing things.

I'll update this post in 6 years with whether or not the Defender warranty is was worthwhile

If you are talking the warranties offered by the dealer, it’s a hard no from me unless:
1. You really think one or more of their after-market items might apply to you; and
2. You are certain you are not moving from the area where you are buying your new vehicle;

Most or the after-market warranties are not transferable to other dealers and as someone said above, they are not honored by Land Rover.

Most of them are going to be specific to Sonic Automotive or AutoNation (if they own the dealer).

I found this out the hard way and will
not make this mistake again.

Here’s what I was quoted for my 2020 Defender w/ 31,000 miles who’s factory warranty will expire in June 2024.

so $6-7k for an additional 33 months of coverage past my factory warranty.

Crazy!

Default Warranty

Was this quote for a LR factory warranty or 3rd party.?

I'm new on this forum and just trying to help my brother figure this issue out for his wife's car they bought at lease end. Any help would be appreciated.

With my wife's Merc S-450 we found (through a Merc forum) a finance manager in OK who sold us a Merc factory warranty for about 2k less than local dealers were quoting. It was a legitimate Merc extended warranty and I have verified it shows up on our record at the dealer. I am hoping to find someone doing that for his RR since I am sure the LOCAL dealer would be big $$$$.
Thanks in advance.

Wait... They are still making Mercurys? Wow, good for you for finding one!

HaHa, I found a comedian. Actually, the first time I heard that term I thought they were indeed talking about the "storied" Mercury Brand, LOL. After a while, mainly from watching F1 for decades the term began to stick with me.

Good catch.

WOW - Thank you for this comment. I have a MY’22 P300S 110, reaching 43k miles and I was considering my options for extended warranty- as I plan to drive this car a long time. Looking at the $6K options for ‘manufacturers extended warranty’ I just didn’t want to spend the money, but could I stomach the risk?

and then your Geico Comment! I didn’t even realize when I purchased my vehicle new I started paying for Geicos Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (qualifying me for signing up under 15K miles, and thus carrying that coverage through to 100k!).

so great to know I am covered, and so glad somehow that I’ve been paying that to date! Can stop stressing and focus on something else.

thank you.
