I had gone through the trouble of making a complicated ladder mount on the spare tire for the D90. I only fit it when I do field work where I'll be out doing field geology for a few days or more. I had made a platform for my D-90 on the Expedition Rack. I use the ladder to get up there with my equipment and to take pics without obstructions. I have recently found I can also use it like a land Aircraft Carrier for my drones. So having the ladder more readily available became important. I was putting it in the rear cargo area and had a "how stupid am I moment." There are these brackets on the seat backs, which I suppose are for larva containment capsules. Well the middle one is at the exact height I needed to strap the ladder firmly to the seat back. I just scavenged a short cinch strap (well cut a longer one down).
To make the platform more attractive to the drones, I put a farm equipment triangle in the middle, about $8 from Tractor Supply. The Thermal Mavic 3 Enterprise drone has RTK (precision survey modules 1 cm accuracy), but likes to use the triangle for precision optical landing. I can just push the RTH button and it then appears on the roof some time later, all on its own. Technology, got to love it some times. Works well and found what I was looking for on this outing, magic rock. It is a section of an iron meteorite that fell into the shallow sea that used to be around here back in the late Triassic time, you know, when plants where only slightly stupider than land animals at the time.
I just love this setup, keeps the many, many thousand dollar drone out of the dirt most of the time.
