Again, you seem to be mixing some different things together. The crossbars are different from the expedition rack, and have a much lower weight rating. I can’t tell at this point whether you are trying to figure out the weight rating if the crossbars or the full rack. If you have the crossbars, the weight rating is less than 220lbs which is the max for any Thule crossbars, which is what they are. Roof strength exceeds that, but it doesn’t matter. You can only load what the crossbars can bear.

To clarify.
I wanted to know if it would be ok to add a 140lb (approx) roof tent onto the 2021defender cross bars?

1. Can the cross bars take the weight, of the tent when driving?
2. If the cross bars are only weight rated in the high 200lbs (when driving)what happens when 3 people (weighing approx 500lbs are in the roof tent?
does the static load rating mean I will be ok?

That will work fine. Tent is below dynamic limit for crossbars, and static limit is around 600lbs, or three times dynamic. https://thule.elevio.help/en/article...y-rooftop-tent

Any idea how high the cross bars sit above the roof? Or the fin?

I am still somewhat confused.

My initial concerned was because the weight limit for the bars is in the mid 200 lbs range. So with the tent installed that is within the weight limit on the bars. That I understand.
BUT....
What I don't get is where and how do I know/check that when we have the full weight of the tent and 3 people it won't be too heavy for the weight limit of the bars??? where will I find this (STATIC. Load limit) can't seem to find that.
We could potentially have 600 lbs up on the roof spread across the 2 cross bars and I want to be certain that I am not over loading the weight of those cross bars..

The cross bars on the defender are the Factory cross bars.... the ones branded defender on the end caps..
Please help me understand where this info is?

The factory bars are Thule bars. You can see the static limit at the link I posted. 600 to 660. You’re fine.

Het Tartan
Thanks for your note. Where did you find the info and can you share the link on the Thule so I can check it out?
