Default Flashing “D”, won’t move

So, randomly, when taking foot off brake, car won't move. D flashes in instrument panel, light blinks on gear selector. Have to press start/stop button to turn off, depress brake and press start/stop button again to get it to turn on. Only then can I select gear and move. Anyone else experience this? Any insights? Thanks.

Sounds like an engine stall. How often does it happen?

Not for a month, then 2 times in as many days. Happened at a light, stop sign, while stopping behind a car turning left.

I would book a service appointment now since it's happened three times. Did you happen to notice if the engine start/stop function was engaged? I would consider disabling that and see if it eliminates the condition in the meantime. I've had at least 1-2 instances of what you're describing in a Mercedes-AMG and another Land Rover vehicle in the recent stable... definitely rocks the confidence for a bit. In both cases, the incidents were so rare .... service could see the instances when scanned but just shrugged their shoulders.

My car did that twice consecutively over two days. Took it to the dealer the following week and its been there since feb 16.... my service advisor has no idea what it is. They keep telling me theyre waiting on a part from the UK.
best of luck to you. Something tells me were gonna need it. This issue is very common. Youre the sixth/seventh defender that i have personallu heard of with engine stalling issues

I had it in once, they found nothing but did a software update. I contacted service advisor and sent him a video. We’ll see.

Can you guys give us approximate mileage on your cars? Also, just for information, are the start/stop and "brake hold" functions activated? I hate the start/stop, so I turn it off as soon as I start the car.

About 2,500 miles. Brake hold and auto start/stop both enabled. You’re right, very annoying.

8300 miles. 2020 P400. Start/stop is always deactivated with me. The vehicle deactivated under light acceleration on the wrong side of the road.
