Fuel economy as measured in MPG = Miles Per Gallon. When your Defender is stationary, you're getting 0 miles per gallon. That's why your MPG metric is so poor.

Just drove back from VT to Mass, Hakka snow tires on, speed ranged from 80+ mph to 50 mph in minor traffic in some spots and got 18.3 mpg - I have ski racks on, too. Going up to VT I got 18.4 mpg so pretty consistent. This includes some back roads and a trip over the Roxbury Gap... I also used the tire setting for heavy loads for higher tire pressures.

I got a P300 (2021) and have gotten about 18-20 consistently. Not to deviate from the thread, but have a related question. On the eco data scores my car has always displayed 1.0 as the speed score (i.e. it seems to never calculate a speed score). I seem to remember back in the early days others seemed to be having similar issues and there was talk of it being a software glitch, but almost five years and many software updates later, this is still the case. Anyone else experiencing this?

Hello!

Filling your tires to the recommended PSI will give you longer tire life, better handling, and improved mileage. A lower PSI may give you a cushier ride, but in the long run, it may shorten your tire life. The tire technician at the Austin dealership and at Costco has recommended running 3-5 pounds over the recommended PSI. I am currently at 3 lbs over, and my tires are wearing evenly. I am at 20k miles on my car and tires, with no uneven wear issues.

It requires a wired update to some module which I forget. Pretty sure I posted it when it got fixed for me. No one seemed interested here on the forum, but it drove me crazy. What's sad is My L663 and L551 both did this. After several trips to the dealer where they would say it was normal, a curious tech figured it out on the L663. Then for the L551, despite the fact they fixed it previously on the L663, they went through the same gaslighting over several trips until again a curious tech rediscovered the fix.

Hello Juan,

I am experiencing the same issue. My 2022 L663 P400 consistently displays a speed score of 1.0. When I first drive off, it briefly displays 5.0, then, without any change in speed or acceleration, it abruptly drops to 1.0. In the driving tips menu, they recommend slow, smooth starts, keeping the rpms under 2,000 (which is quite the challenge), and early lift and light braking when coming to a stop. Nothing seems to make a difference. I average 4.8/4.9 on acceleration and braking. Very frustrating! Please share any info you may discover that enhances your speed score. R/JPC

Is this score keeping thing on all the time or does it only kick in if you use ECO mode?
Now that we have been gifted the premium de-lux version of fuel prices, I was going to investigate this unused feature to see if it makes a difference to consumption.

Interesting. Wondering if it’s something a DIYer can so (I have zero interest to go down the dealer rabbit hole and burn $ as I am out of warranty). Will do some searching around to find the post you referenced and report back.

It’s constant on a per trip basis. Just swipe left once on the touchscreen from the default layout (NAV, Phone, Entertainment) and you’ll get to the eco data widget where you can see 1-5 scale individual dimension live scores (throttle, speed, braking) and the combined score (percentage) as well as trip MPG. It will also display past trip history.

It takes one U.S. mile for it to start providing mpg (at least here- maybe some other distance elsewhere). Until then, the indicators at the bottom for braking, speed and throttle all show 5.0. Once the distance is reached, you will notice they now show meaningful numbers and mpg/ driving score populates- unless yours needs the fix, in which case the one will peg low at 1.0.

For my L663 dealer paperwork says they updated IPC module. L551 says they updated IPC and ICCM modules. I think either could be done with the GAP IID tool if you pay to get the updated module software. If I recall there is an additional charge when you do this.
