G05 X5 45E vs LR Defender

X5 is being changed in MY 2024
Your X5 will be worth less than half your MSRP when the warranty is up. BMW is making major changes for MY2024 so your new X5 is already out of date and old looking. https://bmwcarusa.com/2024-bmw-x5/
Glad I leased my wife's 2022 x5. The Defender will depreciate a lot less as it is a specialty model, will look the same with different engines being the only major change.

I replaced my LR4 with a 2021 Defender and replaced my wife's LR4 with a 2022 X5 M50i. At the time, the 2022 Defender order time was a mystery so we went with the X5 that arrived on time in 3 weeks as promised. After 6 months my wife "stole" my Defender and gave me the X5 to drive. It was fun but I just didn't love it. Plus it turned me into a typical BMW DB driver at times. Why pass that person clogging up the left lane at some normal speed when the M50i can instantly deliver triple digit speed. So I ordered a 2023 Defender to replace the X5 and have never looked back. More comfortable seats, more rear leg room, more rear storage room, no run flat tires, have a full size spare and more capability in deep snow or off road. Plus I'm a safer driver in the Defender. Only big plus to the X5 was reliability with zero issues over 1 year. Can't say that about either of our Defenders,

Have had a 1981 535x sedan, 2010 M535x Wagon, 2014 X1, 2018 X5 and 2022 X5.
Sold the 2022 X5 to buy my 2022 P400.
BMW is great - sporty for an SUV. Tight suspension, corners well, very stable at high speeds. Very high tech and pretty interior. Feels like a big car. It's not a truck, in any sense.
I also have a 2004 Discovery that I love. And I wanted a modern tough truck, so got the P400. It's great too. More of a utilitarian truck
I dont think the X5 and P400 are comparable.
