Default Gap IId tool question

Saw a video on YouTube where someone programmed a lift with the tool, but also set an off road height, max lift height, and a slight drop for highway driving.

Question is, how do you select these when driving? do you keep Gap too plugged in and select through your phone app, or do these options come up on the Defender screen?

thanks!

You can set 3 different lift heights ( or lowers if that's your jam) in height adjust menu. You can select these lifts on the fly using the user interface in the app on your phone. You don't need to stop or slow down to change. It negates the need for lift rods. The lift will remain until you decide to change it again. Default height is a 4th option so it's always there to use.

You can't use the Defender's own PIVI screen to make the changes. The tool must be plugged in. It does get a bit hot if it's there for a long time.

In my case, I'll add a 1", 1.5", or a max lift on rare occasions, as needed on trail and revert to stock for the drive home.

The other way to lower the vehicle is in the height control tab. You can select, normal, off-road, access and bump-stop heights there. The latter is handy for car-washes and my own garage when I have a full load of skis.

Very handy feature that I use frequently.

Just to be sure: the IIDTool can reprogram each height (off-road, standard, highway, and access) separately only on an early (pre-2006) L322 Range Rover (the L663 Defender does not even have a highway height anymore). As of 2006, all vehicles with air suspension can only have the height settings changed together - that is +25mm is 25mm more at every height setting (access, standard, off-road 1 and off-road 2). As Gavin mentioned, we do provide 3 memory slots so that you can program different heights and save them for quicker changes. But for this you will need to plug the IIDTool in, navigate to 'Height Adjust' in the menu and then click on Height 1, 2 or 3. This takes less than a minute.

If you want your daily height to be +10 for example, do you have to set this with the tool every time or does it remember and use “Height 1”?

I’ve found the max I can adjust is 29mm. Any more and the front stops with only the rear increasing. Is it ever desirable to do this … having the rear at a higher offset vs the front?

Yes

on demand lift for minutes or months. It won’t change back until you tell it to change.

Lift rods change hardware and leave the software stock

Gap keeps the hardware stock and allows you to lift or lower by changing the default position in the software.

both provide a lift or lower i till you remove the rod or software adjustment

it’s amazing that lift rods are still bought and installed by anyone. They are completely redundant

Thanks for answers. A few more questions… when making firmware changes, is it ok to open door and get out of vehicle?

Also, I know you can’t make firmware changes while driving, but am I correct in assuming I can adjust suspension settings while car is on (I.e. change to different saved preset, manually raise/lower with arrows?)

I think the reason people still buy lift rods is that you are limited to 29mm of (even) lift using GAP … which is just over 1”. Using rods, I think you can add up to 3” - not saying you should, only that you can.

I'll have to recheck the max height but it is substantial.
I have a 1" and a 1.5" on demand lift, front and back even. Also the max lift is a click away. 3" or something crazy. I suppose for folks who want that ride-like-an-ironing-board feel, a 2" lift-rod is available. Otherwise, redundant.
