Default Gear Carrier - wind noise or rattle?

I have a gloss black gear carrier from Vulkan. I bought it well before my 110X Defender arrived and now I'm not 100% sure I want to install it. I installed the Vulkan ladder last weekend, and will be adding the roof rack soon. I have 2 main concerns on the gear carrier - 1) fitting into my garage alongside my fiancé's car & 2) highway wind noise.

Has anyone installed one on their Defender (one from Vulkan or LR)? Any concerns with creaking sounds or wind noise at 70 mph? I do a good bit of highway driving, so not sure that adding another wind catcher is the best idea for me.

Side Note: If anyone in the US wants to purchase it, I could be persuaded, since I see Vulkan has been out of stock on gloss black. It's brand new and has a black and white genuine LR badge. After installing the ladder, I'm not 100% sure that I want to drill the other side of my Defender and commit to another accessory

In my experience the side carrier doesn't make much noise, if any. I see you're going to install the roof rack, do you mean the expedition roof rack? In that case, prepare for lots of highway noise.

BTW: It's very easy to take off. I don't have mine on when not in use. Since my Defender is black it's easy to cover up the two holes. Takes maybe 5 minutes to take off.

I haven't noticed any material wind noise from our LR branded side box that we had mounted with ladder and roof rack at time of delivery. That being said - the roof rack, logically, does add wind noise but it isn't materially disruptive in my mind (although I will likely add a front wind damn in the coming months to mitigate that a bit more). I do notice more noise when the sunroof interior cover is open v. closed (but glass roof itself closed) - but that's to be expected. The side mounted "lunch box", as I like to describe it when folks ask ..."what it that...", hasn't made a material noise difference and doesn't affect side clearances in my experience.

Hope that helps

Yeah that makes sense. With Pangea I'm bit a hesitant.
It woulda been a nice design if they had paint matched screw caps or something similar. It woulda been feasible since the trim piece is metal (to my surprise upon drilling for the ladder).

I have the LR box, ladder, and roof rack, and can't say I notice any noise from any of it.

Well that answers my question on the wind noise from the box then I haven't noticed any appreciable noise with the ladder only installed now (and mpg ~23 highway w/ the P400), but have heard many places (including here) that the roof rack is a significant source.

As a side note to this.....How would you say the quality of the ladder and expo rack are compared to OEM?

I have OEM lunch box and no issues at all. Have had it on my Defender for over a year. I love the box and use it. Zero problems with garage or wind, I don’t sit in the 3rd row. Also the rear is narrower than the forward body so it doesn’t stick out as much as you would assume. Install isn’t too hard if you follow the instructions and know how to drill and measure. It also looks awesome on the rig. Good luck!
