Atlantic British offers self-performed brake repair kits. It will be a good place to cost the parts necessary for the new Defender. They do not have a kit yet, but will. Here is the LR4 kit. They also have useful instructional videos.

I did the approximate math on this and estimated I would pay $8,800 over the course of 4 yrs if I did not purchase because the hourly rates are so expensive at the NYC and NJ Land Rover dealerships.
Here is the approximate math if I had not purchased:
$1,289 Wipers plus 21,000 mile (first) service (exact cost pre-taxes)
$1,324 1st rear brake pad/rotors (estimate)
$115 Yr 2 front/rear wiper replacement
$1,324 Front brakes/rotors (approx cost)
$115 Yr 3 front/rear wiper replacement
$1,394 Rear brakes/rotors (approx cost before taxes)
$3,161 2nd service (42,000 mile) plus front brakes/rotors (estimated; includes tax)
$115 Yr 4 front/rear wiper replacement
$8,837 Estimated 4 yr grand total if did not have prepaid maintenance plan

The 21k first service should not cost $1,289. It should be around $900+ unless they were putting wiper blades that cost $400 which I doubt.

The 21k first service should not cost $1,289. It should be around $900+ in the tri-state area, unless they were putting wiper blades that cost $400 which I doubt.

Also, you would not need that many brakes replacement so those costs should not be factored in as well unless you drive 50k+ miles a year as multiple reports of defender with electronic rear differential (torque vectoring by braking) at 21k miles with their brakes completely fine

So I am finding that the brake pads do last longer if you don't have the torque vectoring.

I just had my 42 K mile service on my 2020 P300 110 and too was shocked to hear that on both the front and rear I have 6 MM left, which is halfway to needing my brakes replaced. I have the ediff and torque vectoring capability.

On my LR4s and Evoque. I would have already changed the rear brakes once and would be doing a 4 wheel brake change.

The LR4 is HEAVY and the Evoque was sporty (lots of apex to apex driving, using the rears to reduce nose diving and pushing in the corners).

The other reality is that I have become a very poky driver .. with this Defender. Very poky.

When I was ordering my d90, I was deciding if I should opt for the off-road pack with the electronic rear differential. One of the concerns was the potential premature brake wear due to the torque vectoring by braking. But after researching more and with the help of others thoughts and insights including yours, I decided to add the off-road pack. It turned out to be a great decision as the rear differential kicked in on many occasions that became significantly effective in navigating the situations that I was in. The fact that it doesn't cause premature brake wear is a nice bonus!
