Default Headliner for Khaki Interior

Anyone get either the oyster or ebony interior and regret it? I went with ebony out of fear that the oyster will get dirty but I have been having second thoughts since submitting my order.

I’ve been having the same thoughts but with Light Oyster Interior, debating Ebony or Light Oyster Headliner on my 130. I still have Vintage Tan on my order though, which I think should def be Ebony Headliner. My 90 had everything Ebony…but with Khaki, I think Ebony would look better but that’s just personal preference, you could go either or.

As far as dirt, I noticed my headliner, specifically the sun visor and next to it, would have white “staining”, not sure if it was dirt or sweat from my hands or what. It was also on the top door panel and center console cover. So I think black gets as dirty as beige/grey.

I have khaki / oyster and no regrets yet. I'm not seeing any dirt issues with oyster but I can see where maybe where you live might matter for that. My choice was more about adding an airy feel without having a sunroof. If I had one I'd be more inclined to go for ebony on the headliner.

The only thing I don't like about my X (with black interior) is the black headliner. I really love getting in my old Discoveries or Range Rover and having the light headliner...

On a sports car like and M3 or 911... black is great, but the Defender / LR ... I like the light bright airiness of all the windows with a light colored headliner. Just feels right (call me crazy!)

At one point I explored the cost to convert. Ouch. Around $2200 bucks US for all the parts deeply discounted (and I mean *all the parts*), but the big issue and reason I did not do it... you must remove the windshield to take the headliner out. Allegedly, at least according to the service manual.

Are the headliners dirty on your old LRs? Are they difficult to clean?

I have the Oyster headliner and struggle to keep it clean. Keep in mind I use the Defender off-road and on camping trips. It's not the cleanest car but the headliner definitely gets marked up easily. However, haven't had an issue removing marks. So far everything has come out with some elbow grease.

If you could go back would you switch to ebony?

I have the ebony interior with the ebony headliner. My fear was dirt - previous non-LR vehicle had black leather but something similar to the oyster headliner, and it eventually got a bit dirty. I was mostly able to spot clean it successfully. I do occasionally haul stuff from the home improvement store, and also took a long road trip with two 60-ish pound dogs, so your use might be less taxing.

While I had minor concerns about it feeling "too dark", the panoramic roof lets in more than enough light (and in the summer when I don't want all that sun, it's still plenty light in the car).
