Default Hood Decal Install

Fair warning, if installing the hood decal - have the dealer do it. It’s difficult (with one person). Ask me how I know… as mine sits folded over in the trash rather than on the hood. At least Lucky 8 had quick shipping.

My dealer mess it up at the first time too, bubbles everywhere and 110 number was awfully misaligned, after I talked to service manager, they replaced it right away

Did it come with install instructions? Is it a wet install or a dry one like a body wrap? Would love to know more details of your experience. Planning to do this myself because I'm a tightwad.

My dealer farmed it out to a detail shop already knowing what a pain they are to install. Came back perfect!

Ditto on mine. I did ceramic the decal myself right after so I know there’s not a single bubble or wrinkle.

Full disclosure - every one of us on the internet is an expert…….

If you can see the decal on my avatar boat stern - had that applied this spring just before buying the Defender. It was a wet install. The company that did the install used Halo Flexible Film Coating by Gtechniq. After the hood install, dry install, I showed my service advisor the product and asked if I could apply to the decal. He said absolutely yes. Done.

It's a dry install. The kit comes with a squeegee and the instructions are online.

I found it easy to install with my wife's help, it came out perfect. I think the material is porous which is why it can be applied dry. Any bubbles seem to disappear, you don't need to get them to an edge or pierce the vinyl.

You really do need 2 people to install it thought .

Installed by myself alone and had no troubles doing it. The video above is far better than any LR instructions. Follow it to a T and you should be ok. I had one little bubble in the end, but gave it a couple minutes and let the heat do its thing and it went away pretty quick. I was probably lucky, but would try again if I had to. It is a different story with the fender flairs. I suffered to install and align those - mainly the ones in the back of the car. The right rear was so bad that I had to pull it off and remove the tape/glue and apply again with new tape. It was no fun.

Hah, I suppose after successfully installing a few other mods I gained a false sense of confidence. My issues started when I pulled half the decal over and the tape dividing the decal came up… didn’t realize this until after half of it was stuck to the hood.

I’m not sure I’ll shell out another $100+ on one… unless somebody here can convince me otherwise. Lol

Wanting to do the extended arches but I think the rear view (from behind) makes them look tacked on, which in all fairness, they are. I saw a defender equipped with them while driving home yesterday, there was definitely a noticeable overlap from the body to the plastic arch. Didn’t look clean, but perhaps they were installed wrong.
