Default I’m the biggest idiot - Oil Extractor Tube Stuck in Dip Stick Tube

The title says it all, looking for some help. I did my research, watched the video, read the threads, bought the Mityvac 7201 and put the extractor tube down the dipstick tube. Went to apply suction and couldn’t get the oil to flow…something was wrong. Went to pull the extractor tube out and try again and it’s stuck. Dang….super dang…. Looks like I pushed the tube too far down the dipstick tube and now it’s stuck with about a foot of tube left out of the dip stick and 18in of tube past the end of dipstick tube into the oil pan.

Hopefully I won’t damage the engine driving it to the dealer on Monday. I’ll try to pull the tube out again when the engine cools.

Feel like the biggest idiot ever for not measuring the amount of tube to put down the dipstick.

Had this happen with my son's Camry Hybrid. Ended up pulling and pulling, it got longer and thinner but eventually came out. Perhaps not your solution but worked for use. You can get replacement tubing on Amazon.

See if you can spin the tube. Once my extraction tube was a little stuck, since it has a curve in it from being coiled inside a ziplock bag when stored. I was able to spin it and get it free.

Good advice on the twist, thanks. I let the engine cool to attempt the twist but no luck. I poured oil down the dipstick tube to lube the tube but that didn’t work either. I think the tube has a kink at the bottom of the dip stick tube that prevents the removal. Dealer appointment tomorrow. Ouch.

Oh well, it was worth trying. Repair will probably cost the same as what the dealer normally charges for an oil change.

i sure hope so but why do you think only a few hundred $’s? Drop the oil pan or is there an easier approach they might take?

I reckon they'll just yank on it. Give it the beans. It'll come out. There is a tight spot about 6" from the base of the sump that catches folks out getting the tube in. Probably just pinched there. If it breaks then they'll drop the pan and fish it out. I don't think it will break.

Thanks Gavin. BTW, love all the pics you take on your Defender adventures in the PNW! Keep them coming. Mental break for many of us stuck in the city with an adventure vehicle.

Cheers mate. Hope you get sorted out either way. I'm certainly no stranger to this sort of snafu. Experienced more than my fair share.

To be fair, I never measured the tube length or anything like that. I just jammed it down as far as I could possibly jam it down ... and then wiggled it up and down and got it in another few inches... thinking the lower it gets, the more old oil I'd get out. Luckily mine hasn't gotten stuck ! Good to know.
