Default I fixed a nagging problem myself

My June 2020 build P400 HSE had the sifting sand, crackling sound at speeds greater than 75 mph from the passenger side A-pillar. I live about 250 mi. from the closest LR Dealer but took it to LR San Antonio in early June. They were friendly and courteous, and were familiar with the issue. They applied the felt tape fix and texted me couple hours later that my Defender was ready. The felt tape eliminated about 50-60% of the noise but it was still there. I re-read the threads on this forum, in particular Gator42’s post from March 2021. He reported that his dealer tried the felt tape fix as well, but then went one step further and replaced the exterior trim molding with a new redesigned molding. That got me thinking. I went to myroverparts.com, and found the part for $76. I confirmed with the knowledgeable staff there at LR Wilmington (the actual name of myroverparts) that the part they were selling was the new redesigned part. Ordered it. Took about a week with regular shipping to get to me in Texas. I knew from Gator’s post that the part arrived unpainted and needed to be painted body color. Actually body color in the middle, and two horizontal strips of black, one at the top, one at the bottom. Took the part Monday afternoon to a local body shop. Got it back and installed it myself today, literally a 2 minute job. Road tested it at 80 mph+ and noise is GONE.

I’ll send my receipts and a cover letter to Land Rover North America and request reimbursement. Hope this helps others dealing with same issue.

Great to hear that you fixed it yourself!
Can you please share the parts numbers of the New redesign?

Thx.

Thanks for a great post. Unfortunately, I don't have as much optimism about the reimbursement. But, good luck!!

Thanks. My dealer here in Houston replace my driver side with the new part because mine was actually hanging off the car when I took it back to the dealer for replacement. The passenger side has had the felt fix but I still get the "sand hitting the windshield" sound at highway speeds, but slightly less than before.

This video shows how to remove the trim piece. Go to 57 seconds in. installation is the reverse.

What color was the A-pillar trim before you painted it? Would love to swap mine out for black, buying a replacement would be easier than getting a body shop to paint it.

Update to original post:

Today I sent Land Rover a nice letter with receipts requesting reimbursement of my out-of-pocket plus an amount for goodwill and labor. I'll let you know their response.
