The red tail lights have the same issue. I'm waiting for NHTSA to require a recall on those as well. I would imagine EVERY NAS Defender will be recalled at some point for this issue. Of course the way JLR does things I would not be surprised if they sent a letter telling people not to drive at night, or at all, until the vehicles were fixed. Just imagine...

My defender was finally being built this week. I spoke with my sales rep yesterday who said none of the timelines had changed. The said they were aware of the smoked light issues and had not heard of any issues with the normal taillights.

I have seen a few videos of people with the red taillights getting them to turn off. Its crazy how JLR does not share this info with their dealers.

June 3rd appears to be the date of the smoked light recall.....They must have tested non smoked lights a well....maybe some were having issue and others were not.....either way when that recall comes out it it will look pretty bad...

For what it’s worth, I tested MY21 (Jan ‘21 build date) XD HSE and couldn’t get the taillights to go out. I was using my camping headlamp - pretty bright. Maybe not all red taillights impacted.

Just heard back from the dealer about the tail light issue (standard red lights) that I had them look at while my car is in for SSM 75281. They originally said a software update was needed. Today I was told they will have to replace the tail lights.
