I don't buy the "mid cycle refresh" = platform change. That's a ton of cash... JLR would get far more ROI out of electrifying other models than switching platforms on the Defenderino

I agree and may be wrong. I just don’t see the majority of defender owners wanting an EV. I have nothing against EV ownership but hope to never own one.

Curious to see what it looks like. If something similar to the current generation was offered as an EV with a reasonable price and performance I would be first in line.

I would be curious to see if they would come with a IC engine as a backup .... because the outcome is not good.

One of the big advantages of a pure electric car is not having to pay for the maintenance of a gas powered engine. Plus the cost of building a car with both goes up. So while there are some upsides to hybrid power trains, I’m much more interested in a true EV.

I’ve had an EV for the past year and had no issues with it (including in the cold). I’m sure there will be some issues, but on the whole, EVs should actually be more reliable than ICE cars. There are significantly fewer moving parts and things that can break. It may just take a bit of time - EVs are relatively new technology vs ICE cars that have been around for a century.

All the talk about being less expensive to "fill up" electric cars and less maintenance may be true, but I have never been able to make it pencil for any kind of savings vs their gas counterpart. It always takes over 100,000 miles to reach break even in total cost for me.

That seems to be the root of the problem. Too bad we can’t all just converse as adults, express our opinion, and have a mature discussion. That is becoming harder to find these days, unfortunately. Everything doesn’t have to be viewed as win or lose.

I agree with you, Chuck and will say that a discussion on EV’s in no way should be considered a political discussion.
