I’ve never liked the faux walnut trim pieces that were spec’ed for my X-Dynamic. The few pieces looked as out of place as they felt cheap. In a cabin of greys, blacks and off whites, having random pieces of cheap looking and feeling walnut always annoyed me. The $600CAD upcharge on the option is just salt in the wound.
While not everyone’s preference, I’ve always been a fan of CF trim if tastefully done. Vulkan Auto in the UK sells an interior CF trim kit. I had it dumbed down though as the way they currently have the kit packaged is just over the top (in my opinion) for a Defender. Adding the gear shift surround and steering wheel trim is just too much CF trim. So I asked if they’d be wiling to package just the door pulls and ‘hockey sticks’ which they kindly agreed to.
The end result is quite good in my opinion. Not over the top, and blends in so much better. Fit is OEM - these aren’t stickers, they’re full pieces that replace what’s existing. Quality was a 8-9/10 - some faint scratches in the clear coat out of the box, but I can live with it as they’ll get banged up from day-to-day use anyway.
Install is 5 seconds for the door pulls, and a bit more involved for the hockey sticks. Expect some scratches on the backs of your hands if you leave the seats installed.
To get the centre console panels out without breaking clips, use an E14 torx socket to loosen both inner seat bolts (from/rear) so the entire seat assembly can be tilted away from the centre console. The bolts don’t need to be fully removed, just backed off to give some play in the seat. That’ll give enough room to get the panels out, and then the trim pieces can be replaced outside the car.
I like it. I personally don’t like wood in the Defender and fortunately I could order without. As you say, those two trim pieces are all you need. Any more would be too much.
In the last photo you posted, did you forget to put the finisher washers back on???
Thanks, Dad, for telling us that you’re ancient. Enjoy your walnut trim in your tan interior with your Dockers and sandals and socks.

👍
Thanks, and agreed. Flows much better.
Good eye! That was just a mock up checking fitment - all finishers in place.

Oh c'mon...everything is for sale!
I like your CF trim...especially for certain builds/colors it makes a lot of sense. Carbon fiber is becoming more and more commonly used (in a good way) and, I think, belongs more than it ever has in utilitarian applications like the defender (tldr; carbon fiber doesn't only scream racecar like it used to).

Ha, you’re right, for the right price! I’ll send you a message.
And totally agreed - with the khaki interior, the wood trims make a lot of sense and definitely work. I just found it totally incongruous with a black/grey/lighter grey interior in mine, but you’re right - to each their own!
If your havent seen them yet, the Magic Metal from Heritage Customs is another interesting play.. What I am looking for is truly real wood for the hockey sticks and door handles.. I did order the lighter wood in my D90X but would swap out the door handles / hockey sticks in a second for the right option...
