This is the FasTrack transponder (CA) mounted center-front on the sun-roof. There’s an inch or two of clearance between the glass and the sunshade for your larger transponders.

Tried to mount my IPass all over the windshield with terrible results. Don't want a front plate so this is where I mounted the front plate version. Auto grade double stick tape. Once I add the roof rails, I doubt anyone will ever notice it up there.

ErvG35 - have you confirmed that it works from that high and rearward location?

Is it the thing that looks like a door handle?

Yep. A quick check of my account shows it working properly.

Yes. We have three different ones to choose from: A normal inside transponder, a license plate mounted one, and a roof mounted one for larger trucks. I bought a roof mounted one - which looks exactly like the license plate one.

Thanks for confirming. I hadn't thought of mounting it on top. I have the factory roof rack with a small air dam underneath. This would make a nice place to "hide" an external transponder.

I tried a couple different normal transponders in various locations and no luck, so I also ordered a rooftop mount transponder. Then I ordered these from PowerfulUK to mount it:
https://www.powerfuluk.com/vehicles/...nder-l663.html
I planned to replace the eyes with nylock nuts.

BUT: Placing the roof mount transponder on my dash directly in front of me works fine. No need to roof mount it.

A note: The roof top transponder looks just like the license plate transponder, but they are programmed differently according to Kapsch:
"A roof mount and front bumper mount transponder (FME) are physically the same, however they are programmed differently due to their distance to the tolling antenna. The two variants of programming determine if the FME transponder should be mounted to the roof or bumper, and should only be mounted to what they are programmed for to ensure the overall performance of the tolling system. At the time of ordering, the tolling agency must indicated if the FME is to be roof mounted or bumper mounted so that Kapsch can program them correctly to adjust for the transmitting distance between the transponder and tolling antenna."

I have this one and mounted it behind the grill using black zip ties. you can't see it at all and it works perfectly. I had to remove some clips and pull the grill out a bit, but it's worth it.

Did the same thing on my previous Evoque. Had the same transponder as you, but didn’t like the look of it mounted on the license plate, so removed the grill, and found two fasteners that were exactly the space apart to fit the two holes in the transponder. Worked great and could not be seen. BTW, in my MY22 Defender, my toll transponder has worked fine since Day 1. Besides, it seems that most toll systems now employ ’bill by plate’, so if your transponder is not read your plate will reveal that you have an active account and your account will be debited the toll, and you would not even know the difference.
