I don't know if the claimed increase in power is real or not.

However, with only a few caveats that likely do not apply in this case, there is no way to increase power without increasing fuel use (as they claim). That would be violating physics, i.e. the conservation of energy. So I'd be suspicious of the rest of their claims, too.

Edit: Oh, they say "under normal use" further down. That's their out. Sure, if you are just cruising, you are only using a small fraction of the available power and there may not be a noticeable change in fuel economy. But still.

You do you, but I prefer to enjoy the already quite powerful engine without worrying about my warrantee, pinging, having the state come down on me, etc.

I'd stay away from tunes unless you're either out of warranty or you don't care about your warranty. Just last week, my buddy installed a tune on his Evoque and shortly after it started misfiring. He removed the tune before he took it in to the dealer, but it was partially stored in the ECU. Since there was a tune on it, JLR refused to further investigate the problem.

You'll find that most of the people on this forum don't have any interest in adding a tune. It isn't a performance car, it is an off-road luxury SUV. I think the P300 is more than adequate. Not blisteringly fast, but far from slow.

This isn’t a tune, it’s a piggyback device that can be removed easily and is undetectable to the dealer otherwise.

I have run JB4s on BMWs and Mercs in the past while they were under warranty (once that expired, I’d opt for the ECU tune.) They definitely do produce the claimed results - environmental conditions not withstanding.

Agree 100%. As a 130 S owner I know a tune could technically just bump me up to the P400 spec on all the same engine components but the risk while under warranty is just too big. Anything engine related even if difficult to pinpoint on a faulty tune is not a situation I want to be in

Any type of tuning will void your factory warranty. Even if you say it is a piggyback device that can be removed, the telematics in the Defender can detect it.

Jb4 is well known. I have seen it work well during my career at BMW. Super cool that they released something for us. I reached out to see if they will let me dyno test it on Sarek 90. I already have a transmission tune and a regear which made a very big difference in performance. Especially on 35s. I don't believe there will be evidence stored in the vehicle that a piggyback ECU is installed. I will be able to see if there is any stored evidence using Topix cloud.

Sarek! I just went to 35s and am curious about your transmission tune and regear! Do you have any details you can share?

On thread, I've used JB4s on BMWs as well, never had an issue but always felt like there was a "better" way to get performance. It was always a gateway to a proper ECU tune, more performance parts etc 😆

You can reconfigure it to P400 spec without affecting the warranty if you use JLR's in-house Pathfinder software to reconfigure the CCF files. There are companies that offer this, like JLR Active. Aftermarket tunes will affect the warranty.

This is correct. There is no programming involved in the 130 p300 to p400. It is effectively assigning the factory map from a p400 to the p300. Same engine with the same ECU. Can easily be reversed with no sign of change. I would correct the statement that an aftermarket tune like the jb4 "CAN" not "WILL" affect the warranty.
