The silver trim on my key has broken off. The tabs on the inside that hold it on are shot.
I was able to get a complete case replacement but the tabs are actually part of the plastic tray that holds the board and key together so the board has to be switched around the new plastic tray.
That's the problem. The board is sandwiching the plastic and it appears to be soldered together.
Before I try to remove the solder to the battery tray to un-sandwich the tray, had anyone done this successfully?
PowerfulUK has a video of the same process with a different key. Nothing else came up for me on the YouTubes.

Silicone fob cover would of been easer. Leather if you are fancy. Good to know these details though. thanks for the show and tell.
It would. I just don't want to add any bulk. This is the only physical key I have in my life and I wish it was smaller or I could just use my phone.

Same. I mean yeah, I have a few other real keys around for padlocks and whatnot. But my LR key is the only one I carry around. It is getting pretty beat up and I wish I could just use my damn phone.
Did you ever figure this out? I'm in the same situation currently! Thx
No, I threw the Amazon case in the trash because the board will not come out of the original case without de-soldering. I'm decent with a soldering gun but this was just too tight to work with. Maybe a local electronics repair place could do it but my life's too friggin complicated to try. If you find a place that can do it, please lmk.
I just did a key rebuild this past weekend. My key still worked, just wanted a new case because mine looked like garbage.
The tabs failing is an interesting failure pattern I had not considered until I saw you resurface this thread here today.
in my case, I ordered a brand new genuine key on eBay from a seller who had a bunch of new genuine spare keys from actual Land Rovers (bar code stickers still on the side, keys cut already, coded to actual LR’s). So I was going like for like with components, no slightly different aftermarket key components, which is common..
I undid the 4 small Torx, swapped over the front and back plastic cases. Key is brand spankin new now. BUT -- My tabs were not broken. Worked fine.
This is fresh on my mind though: The circuit board is indeed assembled around the central plastic frame (I’m guessing by solder, as you suggest) -- it did not seem readily removable without breaking it or de-soldering it. The circuit board is on the back, and the battery is on the other side, and something attaches it in between. I thought about swapping that piece to have all new plastic but it was not budging. So, I’d say, if your tabs are broken you have to either unsolder the front / back half that sandwiches the board on there, or somehow otherwise get creative.
In my case it didnt matter, the tabs were fine and I was only rebuilding the outside case of my gnashed up key.
I just tossed the part containing the circuit board from the other key I bought in the trash.
Sadly I took no pictures.
