Default Keyed, Scratch Removal Tips

Just got a Defender a week ago, was chilling in the Safeway parking lot and someone decided to rake their key down the rear, noticed earlier today. Trying to get confirmation on what these surfaces are and what the best way to deal with this scratch is. Not deep enough to be felt by fingernail.

Bummer... I really hate people some times.

The sad part is, the scratch is in plastic and so its going to be more difficult to work with. I will let the detailers of the bunch advise you on how to deal with it, maybe just a buffing wheel for a bit.

Are you sure it was keyed? It looks like somebody putting something on the roof and scratch it on the way down. Do you have a roof box or carrier? I would just have clear sprayed.

Yeah, I don't have a roofbox/carrier. Was literally just chilling in the parking lot and someone came up and took the time out of their day to damage it.

You can have it wrapped and it will not show at all. Xpel sells precut kits that you can install yourself or professionally.

I'll get a detailing buffer and deal with it, seems to be plenty of education on the prep/operation of the stuff on youtube, Xpel wrapping sounds like a good followup, especially for the piano black stuff.

I have to ask, were you in your defender when it happened?

Yeah I was just chilling in the front with my nephews in the back. Vehicle was off, either she must not have saw me or didn't care. Was just in the Safeway parking lot in Aberdeen WA, sort of a dumpy town. Had taken the machine out onto the beach. Got some orbital polishers on the way, always wanted to up my detailing game, now I've got the excuse. Didn't go with ceramic coating like I did with my old machine (largely because of the hassle of recoating for spot cleaning), and that'd be another concern with EPEL for me, I guess it 'protects' and is replaceable but that does sound like a hassle, but I guess so is performing paint correction.
