After two weeks of waiting on parts, I finally got my car back from having the keyless entry fixed. Per TSB # JLRTB02076NAS2, the headliner was dropped, the RF receiver was moved from the back to the front driver's side of the headliner and the overlay harness was installed. Keyless entry now works as it should. Hope this helps anyone who also has this problem!
Yeah, I had my 2020 X done years back. 100% improvement in fob detection. Prior to the TSB keyless entry was super flaky and incredibly frustrating. Now it works flawlessly.
Dealer had the overlay harness part quickly from JLR parts, and took 2 days. Dealer was familiar with it and said they'd done another one recently as well.
I've only been on a few drives since, but... all seems to be working 100% now. Very glad I did it prior to warranty expiration. I'd recommend anyone with an early build Defender under warranty still to have a look into this.
Now I hopefully don't have to worry about unlocking the car before stepping out into the road to get in. I had a few moments when parallel parked with cars whizzing by standing there hitting buttons - a bit of a safety concern in addition to the low level annoyance of the exterior door unlock buttons not responding.
This is timely. It's been the biggest annoyance since I got my Defender (and no other issues, really), and I've been planning on asking them to fix it. The TSB number is handy - thanks!
is this in older ones...2024 here an do not notice this
Same issue on my 24MY 110 P400. Major annoyance and it's mind boggling to me they keep building US cars with this defect four years later. Obviously they're aware it's a defective part so it must come down to money.
It's somehow cheaper for them to service vehicles than re-designing a part that works for all Defenders worldwide. There's an earlier thread that mentions the Euro-spec cars have less issues because the harness/sensor is closer to the driver side for a right hand steering wheel set up.
Does anyone know if the TSB would be applicable to the 130 as well?
Dealership just tells me that they cant reproduce the problem every time.
Even the receptionist tried to tell me the key is not designed to work if it's in pocket or near phone. It's amazing how JLR pre-programs the service employees to try and deny obvious warranty claims.
Umm yes it is designed to work from the pocket that's the whole concept of keyless entry! Literally every other car key I've used works from your pocket.
Just be firm with your advisor and show him the TSB. Tell him it's intermittent so that's why the techs can't reproduce it, but every other car you've had has never had this issue and it's totally unacceptable. And tons of people online have the same issue with all Defenders 2020 + and after the TSB is performed they've never had another problem. If that fails I would take it to a different dealer.

As far as I'm aware it would be applicable to the 130, as the RF receiver is in the same place as it is in the 110. Your dealer is being incompetent. Ever since my dealer performed this TSB, the keyless entry has worked perfectly.
