Default L663 transfer case in neutral?

Reading the P300 manual about the operation of the transfer case. It seems it can actually got stuck in neutral!

I know that in those old time 4x4s, there was a manual transfer case with levers and there was a neutral position and you would need this position in some operation.

I do not have experience operating 4x4/AWD with rotary dials to switch among different driving model.

For those they do, any of you had or heard any of such cases like the transfer case got stuck in neutral position? presumably, that is considered as a malfunction, right?

lt's never happened to mine, l've selected neutral a few times, you can do it by accident while driving if you knock the shift lever forwards.

Which l find strange, because in order to select "Drive" again you've got to push the button at the back of the shift lever.

But it's never actually failed to select (from neutral)

I believe you're talking about the transmission being in Neutral; Canglu (OP) is talking about the transfer case, which chooses Hi or Lo range for your 4WD system.

On Jeeps (Wranglers, anyway) Neutral exists as a way to flat-two the Jeep behind an RV, If you don't put the t-case in Neutral, the rear wheels will turn the rear axle, which turns the rear diff which turns the rear driveshaft which turns the transfer case which turns the transmission which (as long as you left the transmission in Neutral) does not turn the engine (if you left it in drive it would also turn the engine when towed.)

But leaving the t-case in Neutral means the wheels through driveshaft turn but the transfer case is disengaged from both driveshafts so the t-case and transmission are prevented from spinning at highway speeds, which reduces wear on them.

But, with the L663 I can't imagine why or how it would get stuck in Neutral, other than a software glitch of some sort. I would guess you're hosed at that point.

If we can some how, "deliberately, purposefully" get the transfer case into neutral (!!), then, both front and rear drive shafts would be totally disconnected from the transmission (!!). Then, after physically take the EPB off the rear hub assembly, then, can we imagine flat towing a L663 like a Wrangler with TC in neutral? This can be useful for those in need of recovery, but too far away from those JLR certified recovery pros.

If we can not, then, we can not. Life still goes on.

But, can we?!

Ah my mistake

Not sure how you could get the transfer case into neutral deliberately.

My MY21 and I believe many others have a Transmission Park Release lever in the engine bay which locks the transmission in Neutral.
The procedure to tow on 4 wheels is below.

MY23 doesn't have transmission release.

Are you certain? Without a method to lock the automatic transmission in neutral and prevent the transmission from automatically selecting park, recovery will be extremely difficult.
