Edit: What Grouse said. I be slow
They aren't to protect the paint or save the gear. They keep tree limbs off the windshield for an unobstructed view while driving.

Scratching the paint was the least of their worries:

Very good. Thanks all. Something learned, today -- yippee!

I would not have guessed the "keeping the limbs off reason". But as one who drives mostly in the woods, I think on I am certain that it would work well.

As for looking cool, that's out of my league -- even though I do think many of the Defenders being shown are really very, very pretty.

Enjoy !

@stillruns - perhaps he was referring to the two Jerry cans full of fuel on top? I think he was joking, either way.

Hey, maybe every Defender needs that with their windshields!! In this case, I highly suspect that they are for "looks". You know a lot of 4x4 is as much as looking cool as much as function. I looked at the Trek 21 in the North Hills and it looked like they were clipped on with those Nite Eyz carabiners. If that's the case, there's not really any strength in them. Also they start way too high up in the hood. Most of the Australia versions start at the roo bars to give the branches / trees more time/slope to go over. But fully functional ones are pretty beefy to protect the front {windshield} of the truck.
Seen the limb risers on these in action at Trek and they did their thing without letting go.

Our dealer here in St Louis participated, so we have one. I had the 90 & 110 NAS Defenders, so I would really like that rear ladder as opposed to the fancy OEM one. Any idea it it's available yet?

Did you see the rear ladder? That, the winch, and the integrated bumper hooks are all I want off of it. Just where is the ladder??

No, he specifically said, ‘on the side’.
