I will say that my windshield is very cracked (not view impairing) from top left over to the right side just above mid and heated windshield still works perfect. It seems the wire layer is near the inside part of glass.

Definitely not. Broke 2 on our 2021 over 40K miles, 3 on our 2023 over 40K miles and already broke 1 on the 2025 in 6K miles.

I do wish that the wipers would thaw more and not ice up as much. I've not had a vehicle where the wipers are this sensitive.
I leave them in winter mode and it's usually enough to give it a decent swipe, but once I start driving they just ice up and streak.
I can turn the windshield back on again and it all works ok with a little wiper juice, but once the heater shuts off it ices again.
I also noticed that the defroster is mostly in the center of the windshield and not as much on the sides which doesn't help with the wipers icing up.

Maybe i should look to see if there are other settings in the HVAC I could look at to try and get more constant heat from the HVAC on the windshield.

I agree - this is by far the worst car I’ve had when it comes to frozen wipers. I probably go through six sets of blades every winter because the ice will ruin them.

ok I thought it was just me. With the snow storm that just hit us in the NEeast this past weekend, a few thoughts - as this was my first time driving the defender through snowy and icy conditions
  1. The snow setting really does help. I found that when accelerating from a complete stop, it handled it much better than any other car I've owned (Audi, Volvo, Mazda, Saab)
  2. Overall stability and control were great. many cars were sliding all over - though I also credit myself for being such an excellent driver lol
  3. The wipers were a nightmare! I wasn't sure if was the weather - the snowy/icy rain that was getting clumped up or if it was just bad wipers. I actually had to pull over and clean them. I did turn on the heather windshield which kind of helped, but not really. The worst was the snow/ice getting accumulated at the A-Pillar. The lack of the heating element there also made that part of the window fog up a bit (but nothing that distracted me from driving). Any suggestions on better wipers out there?
Overall I found the car handled the bad roads like a champ - from snow filled side streets to the slushy/icy roads of the highway. bring on the next storm!

So back in the day Subu used to have a heater down low at the wiper "off" position. I've always wondered if a heated windshield should also have this up towards the A-pillar area too.

Why is this such a hard problem? As in don't they test drive per-production cars in winter (proper winter/ice-snow)? I dare feel it's cost cutting to ignore 5% of the market vs "summer" mall crawlers?

Agree with a number of posts seen here on the wipers, I was wondering if I just got a defective set or something - worst wipers I have ever had on a vehicle. At best when its cold (which currently is every day here in Atlantic Canada), they streak across the window. If snowing, they start to freeze up along the blade, the heated window helps somewhat but I guess I was hoping for more. I do agree that the Defender is great in the snow, but it would be nice if I could see out the window.
Anyone find any decent after market wipers?

I haven't been able to find any aftermarket wipers that fit (and I've tried just about everything). While the connector is universal, the wiper arm itself is just a smidge too long that any aftermarket blade I tried wouldn't fit. Shame, because I've always been a fan of the Bosch Icon blades and they don't fit on Defender.

Just replace the rubber and keep the blade. $3 per swap.

I tried your method and ended up breaking both of my blades. Not worth the hassle for me, even though I'm bending over backwards when buying $80 front blades from the dealer.
