For those of you running 18s on the P400, how much clearance don you have between the caliper and rim front and back?
I did the rear caliper swap and test fitted my new wheel and tire combo tonight. As you can see from the pics, there isn't much clearance between the calipers and the rim. On the front, looks like I only have a few mm between the back of the spokes and caliper as well as a few mm between the caliper and inner barrel.
In the rear, the caliper barely has any clearance between the inner barrel and caliper body. Is it this tight for the Tuffant Kimberly rims too? Do the calipers move enough during normal driving to cause rubbing? They spin freely with the vehicle jacked.
Wheels are Method Race Mr706 18x9 ET25 wrapped in 265/70/18 Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws. Front caliper to spoke Front caliper to spoke Front Rear caliper
I've not done the caliper swap but have trimmed my rear calipers.
Front's have plenty of room. No issues whatsoever.
Rears I have 2-3mm
Kimberley offset is +29
Simpsons are an easier fit at +27 with no trimming of the outside edge of caliper needed.
No caliper movement. It's a fixed structure. There is a lot more room room between spokes and calipers. Do you have any room for wheel weights? It's a tricky fit on the Kimberleys.
Based on my measurements, there would be plenty of room with the caliper swap and any of the Tuffants. It's a much slimmer caliper.
Not sure if any of this is relevant to your post. Apologies if it's worthless garbage.
Thanks @GavinC . This was helpful. Just looks like the it's due to wheel design differences. Even with the slimmer calipers, I have a little less clearance than you in the rear. In the front my spokes are much closer, despite the wheels having similar specs.
If the calipers are fixed, then I should be ok since the wheels spin. No room for any debri to get stuck I guess...
The wheel weights were mounted towards the back of the rim so they don't make contact with the calipers.
