Default My 2020 P400 Defender- In the Shop for Milltek Exhaust System

like others on this forum i would modifying and tinkering with my cars.

i have added a bunch of oem and non oem accessories and modifications

But i have been waiting patiently for an exhaust system. The p400 has sufficient power but the exhaust tone doesn’t match the Defender rugged appearance

Defender in the shop right now for the Milltek Non Resonated exhaust system. I am in US and the system is suppose to fit US Spec cars with no OPF but made technically for Euro Spec OPF

i will prob be the first in US with the system so hopefully no issues.

more to come

so system is installed and unfortunately i wasn’t able to take pics of the pipes before. i did open the box and see what it was all about. pretty simple system. one longer straight connecting pipe and one with curves, muffler and tips. the system was built for cars with opf filters. no idea where those filters would be in the euro spec cars but i imagine on the downpipe right by the flex joint.

it’s a single mandrel bent pipe connecting a muffler with quad tips.

price was very reasonable compared to other exhaust systems i have had on other cars but those were much more complex and more material

so as for the sound. i am not totally in love with the sound. it’s a little boomy in low rpms right around 2k and does go away once turbos kick. some would call that drone but drone is the worse when cruising. beside the boom at 2k it sounds pretty good for a v6. it’s been a very long time since i had a v6. last 6 cars were twin turbo v8’s and a super charged v8. so accustomed to a different tone

i am inquiring about adding the resonator. that should get rid some of the boom. the system can be purchase with or without a resonator

i’ll try to post some pics and more importantly some sound clips

i got a bunch of the standard accessories that most have but all were added after purchase

-oem fender flares
-lucky8 box delete. removes that random color matched square on your back windows
-1 inch proud rhino lift
-20 inch black rhino chase wheels
-275/55/20 bfg k02
-oem mirror and rear checkered protection pieces. just added those and not sure on them yet
-front runner slim rack- mounts to oem rails with full wind fairing. prob going to take this off. thought i would be using it more but beside 2 camping trips with a mounted rooftop tent which i sold it sits on the roof making a bunch of noise and doesn’t make sense. don’t camp enough and wife insist on a trailer
-bunch of Poweful UK lighting upgrades. all interior lights changed and rear upper boot light. highly recommend the upper light.
-front runner tail gate table. highly recommend this also but there are cheaper options on Amazon.

i was going to help in development with prototype piggy back tuning box to pump up the power with a reputable tuner but that was put on hold due to Covid. that would bump the p400 power output really close to the v8. still expecting that to happen but need to wait for a bit

still have some future plans if i keep the car. i am too on the list at my dealer for a 007 edition v8 but checking to see what type of stupid market up they going to charge me. i would be trading in my defender. if i can bridge the gap on a profit on my defender i could digest a mark up on the 007. i am hearing possible a 25-50k mark up. i could do a 25k markup but after that i rather order a v8 for retail

Since you don’t seem to be aware, it’s not a V6. It’s an In-line 6. Totally different aural signature than a V6.

Cheers!

I purchased the exhaust kit from NewDefenderMods in Australia
New Defender p400 Exhaust System (Twin 3 Inch Exits) – New Defender Mods

Then I spoke to Land Rover NZ and they tell me that if I install it they will void my warranty for ANYTHING that goes wrong with the car,
Whoops.

i was looking at this option and Kahn which both are muffler deletes. both very pricey for what they are

couldnt justify the price tag. the Milltek was very well priced

@waldoverkill - that sucks! I don't know what the laws are in NZ (I think that's where you are). I'm in the USA and our laws don't allow Dealers/Manufacturers from disallowing warranty claims on non-related items. I'd get a second opinion on that. Many Dealers in the US are ignorant of their liability or try to push it off until shown that their stance is incorrect. May be the same for you. The problem with the muffler is that they likely could claim that it impacts the engine performance. In the US, it would likely limit to connected systems only. Good luck!
