new defender reliability
Next time you take your vehicle to a Dealer and they take off any wheel, check the torque. I will send Donuts to anyone who has the torque <20% over spec'd. No, I've rarely seen a mechanic use a torque wrench on anything other than deep engine work. It's all done by what the air wrench is set to or by "feel". If they torque everything to spec like a DYI person, I'd be shocked.
This is a really nice kit. Only used it once but it worked great and you can't beat the price.

I have 18K miles on my 2021 Defender SE. Unfortunately twice in the past 6 months I have had it towed to the dealer. First time was for overheating and actually ended up being a software update. The second time is for power steering failure - currently in the shop now, new power steering gear box ordered. I am in Atlanta and go to Hennessy Buckhead - they never have a loaner. Loaners are for people who set up an oil change 3 months in advance, if you have a LR under warranty that gets towed - no chance for a loaner. I would be fine if i had things going on that I just needed to make an appoint for and take in but being towed is the most inconvenient thing in the world. not reliable in my book.
My car was in the shop for two months in the first year i owned it. Its been pretty reliable otherwise.
engine shuts off still seemingly at random times. Consumes coolant. Theres something bumping thumping under the car. But hey if land rover service say its normal. Who am i to judge. My bmw x5 is also in the shop. Not a single problem in 40k miles and suddenly engine died last week. it is what it is, they are all unreliable.

*And as I said somewhere earlier in this thread, nothing's actually broken that I didn't tear up -- windshield cracked when a limb fell while I was parked under a tree; I've ripped both front Classic mudflaps off in mud/rock, and when they go the trim piece they're attached to goes also. The truck's been rock solid so far, at 2X,XXX miles. But I'd be pissed if I'd been towed twice already. And no loaner? Will they not even give you a rental that they pay for from Enterprise or something? F'in Chrysler at least did that for my Jeeps!
I haven't seen this kit before but I may pick one up for a quick grab and go. I typically carry a rechargeable DeWalt 1/2" drive impact wrench with an impact socket set that fits lug nut sizes on all of my wheeled vehicles, trailers, along with a 12 ton bottle jack and a few chunks of lumber. Not interested in being on the side of a freeway for long if I don't have to be.
Dealer said to call LR and ask for reimbursement, so I did and LR said after I get my car back they will consider the claim and may reimbursement. They stated if is not their fault that the Dealer does not have a loaner and it is not part of their warranty to reimburse for expenses related to repairs under warranty. I'm in Brookhaven so Buckhead is convent but the service is just not good, I do not feel like a valued customer at all. Will try Roswell next time, but will never buy a car from any Hennessy dealer again.
32K miles on a P400 and not a single problem except for one cracked windshield that was replaced. Have beat it up pretty good with some off road and towing and lots of snow and ice. Previous cars were Volvo, VW, and three Audi’s. Not counting the old Alfa’s, subie and Jeep. All had required dealer visits/repairs by this time. Bought an extended warranty because I didn’t expect this, but so far so good—knocking on large piece of wood. I do wonder about the P300’s though. Seems like more anecdotal info on engine and turbo problems, but have seen no real data on that.
28,000 miles on a July 2020 110HSE and zero issues being needing software updates, a couple of recall bulletins. The only thing wrong with it is the windshield noise that’s caused by the passenger a pillar. It’s been re-seated and has new clips put in which made it better but it still makes the noise occasionally at Highway speeds. Mainly when the wind is blowing a certain way too I think.
I also have an X P400 on order and come from the background of experiencing the reliability of 3x BMW's. In todays world and certainly for the price of a Defender a reasonable standard of reliability should be part of the package. I am expecting that at least. I hope I'm not disappointed.
